nformationssystem Medienpädagogik (information system media education) provides current, comprehensive information on relevant literature, films and projects. It targets anybody concerned with implementing and using media in general and vocational education, as well as media use in universities and further training: scientists, teachers, educators and carers, parents, students.
ISM is the largest German collection of databases in the field of media education. At present, more than 100,000 records are stored. Information and media competence are presented from a broad perspective. Material on the competence of reading traditional print media is included as well as more recent developments, particularly in virtual learning and media environments, media research and media pedagogy. ISM comprises a metasearch functionality and media and institution databases.

Since 2003, the information system on media education has been available as an openly accessible web service maintained by the DIPF. The portal is provided under the umbrella of the German Education Server.
Following an initial funding phase supported by Bertelsmann foundation, the project is now hosted by the DIPF – together with the media centres in the federal states, who are committed to media education and monitoring:
