Learning and teaching processes and cognitive functions in late adulthood

The development of cognitive functions in later adulthood is marked by a reduced performance, but this varies in different domains (e.g. knowledge base, processing speed) and it can be partially compensated by training. This project is concerned with the limits and possibilities of such a compensation as well as investigating potential transfer effects the training of certain functions might bear on areas that have not been trained.

The project aims to elicit the limits and possibilities of training selected cognitive functions in later adulthood. More specifically, the project focuses on the posssible training of working memory and episodic memory, as well as transfer effects on areas that have not been subjected to training. These aspects are studied by means of experimental cross-section studies and micro-genetic longitudinal studies.

The project is funded by the general DIPF budget.
