Lesen in Deutschland / Reading in Germany

Lesen in Deutschland is a joint venture portal on the extracurricular promotion of reading skills by the federal and state governments. It was launched on behalf of the Bund-Länder Commission for Educational Planning (Bund-Länder-Kommission für Bildungsplanung - BLK) and financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The portal is published and edited by the Information Center Education where the German Education Server and the portal for educational reform, “Bildung PLUS”, are also located. ”Lesen in Deutschland” intends to improve the transparency of the divers activities and projects in the area of promoting reading by presenting a pool of ideas, profiles of actors, work sheets that are available online, and research studies, thus it also intends to trigger local activities. As a general goal children are to experience reading as a matter of pleasure, thus improving their reading competence.

The core of this service consists of an overview of reading activities in the individual states, suggestions for reading, information on reading in the family, and reports on current research in the area of reading. The articles, interviews and reports are published weekly by a team of online editors. A regular newsletter keeps users informed about current developments.
