TBA / Technology Based Assessment
Technology Based Assessment was funded as a project from 2007 to 2010. Since January 2011 it has become a permanent field of work in DIPF.
The interdisciplinary group “Technology Based Assessment“ unites the domains of information technology and competence assessment in a combined service, development and research structure.
Our team of psychometricians, information technology specialists and information scientists supports national as well as international educational projects with technology based test methods.
Research and development projects are carried out to investigate technology based assessment for improving the validity of tests and enhancing measurement efficiency, and to design procedures and standards for optimising technology based test development processes.
In national and international co-operations, TBA supports large-scale studies, e.g. the
- OECD study Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)
- The National Educational Panel Study (NEPS)
- and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA 2012)
In the field of research and development members of the TBA team collaborate, for example, in projects on
- Computer based competencies (Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy)
- Computerised adaptive testing (CAT)
- Technology based diagnostics taking processing speed into account
- E-Learning as well as formative and instruction-related assessment
- Effects of technology based testing (Mode Effect Studies)
- Development of metadata standards for pedagogical-psychological diagnostics
- Workflows in item building and translation of items
In addition, TBA develops openly accessible software for assessment purposes and co-operates with national and international partners in the area of software development. Its relevant projects in the respective field are TAO and the CBA ItemBuilder.
