Office of the German Education Server

A description of the Office of the German Education Server (Eduserver), including an overview of its tasks and topics.

Photo Team EduserverThe German Education Server / Eduserver  is a joint venture service by the federal government and the Länder states. As an Internet guide to education in Germany, it offers comprehensive databases as well as structured access to fundamental and scholarly information for different target groups.

The portal thematically focuses on: early childhood education and care, primary and secondary school education, higher education, vocational education and training, adult education  - continuing education, science and educational research, special education and social pedagogy.

The Eduserver regularly publishes a newsletter. Its current features further include a calendar of educationally relevant events, a database of available jobs and job seeker profiles in education and science, as well as interactive Web 2.0 platforms including blogs and wikis and an English language Twitter account.

The German Education Server provides international users with an in-depth English language service including a specialised portal where they can find current news and thematically relevant resources regarding the German education system and its international perspective. Photo Team Eduserver 1The co-ordinating office of the Eduserver is located at the German Institute for International Educational Research in Frankfurt/M. and Berlin, which offers this service in co-operation with the Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht (FWU), Grünwald.

A governing board of representatives from the federal government and the Länder states and experts accompanies the activities of the German Education Server.

Based on the administrative agreement on the co-operation of the federal government and the Länder states (§ 91b, 2 of the Basic Law), the office of the German Education Server coordinates the association of publically funded portals in the area of education. This commission in particular assures a sustained documentation of the results from completed BLK programmes and current KMK model projects.
