Education Server 2.0: Development and Test of Interactive and Participatorial Services for Target Groups

The project "Education Server 2.0" was aimed at an improvement and enhancement of the interactive user interfaces provided by the German Education Server on the basis of advanced technological developments regarding so-called "Web 2.0" applications.

Project description

The project “Education Server 2.0 – Development and test of interactive and participatorial services for target groups based on ‘social software’” is aimed at an improvement and enhancement (in terms of services for specific target-groups) of the interactive user interfaces provided by the German Education Server on the basis of advanced technological developments regarding so-called “Web 2.0” applications. Hence, the users are to be offered an opportunity for the exchange of professional questions, practical problems, or current educational issues. In an example cooperation, the Hamburg Education Server participates contributing regional issues such as the “self-responsible school” in terms of the Hamburg school reform, and collections of teaching material for selected subjects, such as German. The participative Web 2.0 applications can further be put to use in higher education and research contexts. Here, wikis can be implemented for a joint development of work or research methods or the collation of thematic information resources.

A wiki plattform devised by the FWU institute, which is concerned with enhancing and improving media educational information, will offer context material and additional information for didactics and teaching methods. It will further provide experts in education opportunities for exchanging information and experience.
In order to achieve an integration of previous types of participation with the Web 2.0 applications, a planned series of expert chats is supplemented by wikis or weblogs, which are aimed at preparing the chats and providing a greater context. Hence, interested users are given the opportunity to raise their own topics or to comment directly on the respective topics of discussion.

The project is assisted by an evaluation: reciprocal effects, as to the different services for the target groups as well as effects concerning them and the general services provided by the German Education Server are documented and analysed by quantitative and qualitative measures.
