Educational Resources Clearinghouse
The "Educational Resources Clearinghouse" describes the collections of information according to formal and content-related criteria in a wiki, so that users can reach reliable conclusions regarding the quality of the pertinent collections.
The "Educational Resources Clearinghouse" describes the collections of information according to formal and content-related criteria in a wiki, so that users can reach reliable conclusions regarding the quality of the pertinent collections. The content-related and formal criteria concern types of information (e.g. full text repository), the thematic area (e.g. higher education), conditions or limitations of access or the language version of the collection of information.
The descriptions and evaluations of the collections of information will be used for semantic analyses by means of the Semantic MediaWiki software, an enhancement of the MediaWiki software. The project aims to correlate information, in order to generate new knowledge automatically.
The "Educational Resources Clearinghouse" shall serve users as a starting point for collective discussions and the further development of information services. By means of “collective tagging“, users can name quality criteria themselves, thus describing the scope or completeness of a service, and the time it covers – moreover, they can assess the relevance of these criteria. Hence, qualitative assessment is not solely limited to workers at the DIPF, but it is subject to an open information and communication area.
The project is continuously evaluated in terms of an iterative system development. Acceptance and user conduct regarding the wiki are assessed on the basis of questionnaires and usability tests. Furthermore, the user-oriented taxonomy (folksonomy) is compared to educational thesauri.
The Leibniz Association funds the project "Educational Resources Clearinghouse" within the framework of the pact for research and innovation 2008.
