The DFG project „Innovative bibliometrische Verfahren zur kontinuierlichen Beobachtung der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschungsproduktion“ (Innovative Scientometric Methods for a Continuous Monitoring of Research Activities in Social Sciences) focuses on new or newly applied forms of scientometric analysis that can complement citation analysis, a highly elaborate and scientifically controversial method, as indicators of performance in research and lecturing.
International instruments for analysing scientific publications include German educational science only marginally, and German databases support the demands of scientometric analysis inadequately. Moreover, the development of new publishing methods renders digital publications relevant. These digital publications are not assessed by conventional scientometric methods, which focus mainly on printed journal publications. The scientometric project intends to develop and test methods, and technical procedures, of an indicator-based monitoring for educational research. It aims at improving the instrumental conditions to evaluation procedures, quality assurance, and transparency of research activities in the field of educational research (which can be transferred to other social sciences with regard to method). Results from the project are relevant to the promotion of research, academic societies, students, lecturers, researchers as well as the broader professional public.
Applications and services resulting from the project, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) programme for promoting the provision of Scientific library services and information systems, are to be sustainably stored in the German Education Portal.
