Project description

The aim of this project was to bring together the history and perspectives on empirical educational research in Germany, to analyze, discuss and compare this historically and internationally, with special attention to North-American approaches as well as the francophone region (Belgium, Switzerland and France).

The late 18th and beginning 19th century was focused on as well as the turn of the 19th to 20th century and the 2nd half of the 20th century. The specific research approaches considered "empirical" were discussed as rooted in the contemporary understandings. The results of a conference held in September 2008 in Berlin were published as:

Christian Ritzi/Ulrich Wiegmann (Hrsg.): Beobachten - Messen - Experimentieren. Beiträge zur Geschichte der empirischen Pädagogik/Erziehungswissenschaft. Bad Heilbrunn: Verlag Julius Klinkhardt, 2010.
