Indexing and Digitisation of Printed Material Published in the 18th Century in the German-Speaking Areas

Within the project "Indexing and Digitisation of Printed Material Published in the 18th Century in the German-Speaking Areas (VD 18)" part of the collection of the Research Library for the History of Eduction (BBF) will be indexed, digitised and made accessible publicly.

Project Description

The “Catalogue of Printed Material Published in the 18th Century in the German-Speaking Areas” (VD 18) aims at recording and indexing prints in German or in German-speaking countries published between 1701 and 1800 and thus represents the continuation of the cooperative national bibliographic projects "Catalogue of Printed Material Published in the 16th Century in the German-Speaking Areas" (VD 16) and "Catalogue of Printed Material Published in the 17th Century in the German-Speaking Areas" (VD 17). However VD 18 differs from both of these in that the national bibliographic undertaking integrates cataloguing and digitisation in order to create a digital library of 18th century German prints with high quality bibliographic data, openly accessible for researchers and the general public. Research and navigation being simlified by standardised structural data within the collection and the individual titles using the DFG-viewer.

Within the project, 450 eighteenth-century volumes (which means about 107.550 scans) from the collection of the Research Library for the History of Eduction (BBF) will be digitised, indexed and made freely accessible to the public.

Funding

The project is funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).
