The Innovation Portal of the German Education Server presents projects and model experiments by the Federal Republic of Germany and its states that aim at innovative measures in educational policy, as well as relevant projects by freelance organisations (e.g. foundations), and also international or European programmes that are significant to reform policies. Hence, it offers educational administrators, educational researchers and people from school practice as well as the professional public a quick access point to information regarding reform measures and current developments in the area of education.
The database "Innovative Projekte und Programme von Bund und Ländern zur Qualitätsentwicklung des Bildungssystems" ("Innovative Projects and Programmes by the Federal Government and the States aimed at the Development of Quality in Education") constitutes the core of this service. This database allows you to operate simple and complex searches, via drop-down menus with a variety of options, search term and key word search, and to search by areas of innovation and education, federal states and project types. It covers all structural areas of education from the elementary sector to vocational education and training and the higher education sector. The database is integrated into a comprehensive context of thematically relevant information and its services are enhanced and updated continuously.
The service offering "Projekte online: Homepages und Materialien" ("Projects online: Homepages and resources") assures that (completed) BLK model programmes and current or future projects of the states will be accessible and available to the public for a long time. Apart from providing diverse links, the site presents text documents, media services, bibliographical references, research resources or practice reports that have been developed in the immediate context of innovative programmes and projects.
The online magazine "Bildung + Innovation" ("Education plus innovation") has emerged from the publication platform "Bildung Plus", which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research until late 2006. It supports the current discourse in educational policy and initiative in the federal union and the states by providing editorial contributions, background information, reports, thematic dossiers and interviews with experts in education.
The heading "Förderung von Lesen als Schlüsselkompetenz für Bildungsteilhabe: Initiativen in den Ländern" ("Promoting reading as a key competence in educational participation: Initiatives in the federal states") subsumes state-specific projects, activities in the extracurricular promotion of reading, and integrates them into the Innovation Portal. They can be further accessed as state portraits in the portal "Lesen in Deutschland" ("Reading in Germany").
The joint portal by the federal union and the states (which went online in October 2006) is supported by funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Standing Conference of the State Ministers of Education and the Arts in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK), a governing body with representatives from the federal union and the federal states monitors its developments and activities.
