Abstract: Wenn ein Kompetenzmodell empirisch überprüft werden soll, sollten Items in einem entsprechenden Test das Kompetenzmodell adäquat repräsentieren und ihre Bearbeitung als Indikator der entsprechenden Kompetenz interpretierbar sein. Um dieses und weitere Gütekriterien gezielt berücksichtigen zu können, wurde der Prozess der Test- und Itemkonstruktion auf der Grundlage eines Kompetenzmodells der Modellkompetenz im Biologieunterricht literaturbasiert in sieben Schritte strukturiert. Diese Schritte umfassen (1) die Formulierung der theoretischen Fundierung, (2) die Testkonzeption, (3) die Systematisierung der Itemkonstruktion, (4) die Entwicklung einer Konstruktionsanleitung, (5) die Itementwicklung, (6) die Itemerprobung und -selektion und (7) die Festlegung des Erhebungsdesigns. Sowohl die adäquate Repräsentation des Kompetenzmodells durch die Items als auch deren Interpretierbarkeit als Indikator für Modellkompetenz wurden durch die theoriegeleitete, systematische Konstruktion sowie dort eingebundene Validierungsschritte erreicht, so dass der Test für die empirische Überprüfung des zugrunde liegenden Kompetenzmodells eingesetzt werden konnte. Die Strukturierung der Testentwicklung kann somit sinnvoll als Grundlage für die Konstruktion anderer Kompetenztests herangezogen werden.
Abstract (english): The empirical testing of a theoretical cognitive model requires items that represent the model adequately. Furthermore, the results of the test should be interpretable as indication of the tested competence. Based on a cognitive model of model competence that was developed in biology education research, the test and item construction was structured in a literature-based seven-step process to include scientific criteria - such as aspects of validity as mentioned above. This seven-step process covers (1) the description of the theoretical foundation, (2) the development of a test conception, (3) the systematizing of the item construction, (4) the development of a manual for the item construction, (5) the development of the items, (6) the testing and selecting of items, and finally (7) the determination of the survey design. By using this theory-driven and systematic construction with the incorporated steps of validation, the adequate representation of the cognitive model through the items and their interpretability as indicator of model competence were achieved. As a result, this instrument can be and was used to test the cognitive model empirically. In conclusion, the seven-step process of test development is a useful basis for the construction of other competence tests.
