Abstract (english): This article focuses on the reliability of measurements and the validity of their interpretations in the context of social sciences, in which researchers aim to measure theoretical constructs that cannot be directly observed. In order to measure an unobservable construct, researchers need to decide how to operationalize the construct, that is, define which observable data are indicative of the construct. The underlying aim is to always obtain a measure as reliable as possible, and the interpretations and inferences drawn from the measurement should be as valid as possible. The article comprehensively defines reliability and validity in the context of social sciences and further presents different methods for establishing reliability and validity. (DIPF/Orig.)
