Abstract (english): In this article the foundations of national education in multi-ethnic Russia are analysed. The authordistinguishes three diverse settings with different problems: the national republics of the RussianFederation, multi-ethnic regions with non-Russianindigenous inhabitants, and multi-ethnic urban centres. Special emphasis is given to the development of national education in Moscow. In this multi-ethnicmegapolis, which is also the capital of the RussianFederation, new problems of tolerance and ethnic diversity have emerged, which cannot be solved by the means of traditional minority politics.
