Abstract: Auf der Grundlage eines Rückblicks in die deutsche Bildungsgeschichte seit dem17.und 18.Jahrhundert ist der Beitrag den gegenwärtigen Debatten über Lehrerbildung in Deutschland gewidmet. Er konzentriert sich auf die Analyse von Problembereichen, die in Form von Antithesen vorgetragen wird. Ein besonderer Abschnitt handelt von zwei laufenden Pilotprojekten an deutschen Universitäten, die auf die Umsetzung des 'Zwei-Phasen-Modells' zielen, entsprechend dem Vorschlag in der Bologna-Deklaration. Im Hinblick auf die gegenwärtige Situation wird der Stand der Lehrerbildung in Deutschland positiv bewertet, so weit seine grundlegenden Qualitäten betroffen sind. Defizite werden dagegen in der unzureichenden Koordinierung von Fachstudium und berufsorientierter Ausbildung innerhalb des Universitätscurriculums sowie in dem fehlenden Zusammenhang der beiden aufeinander folgenden Ausbildungsphasen identifiziert. Schließlich werden die schockierenden Ergebnisse von TIMSS und der ersten PISA-Studien als deutliche Herausforderung zu Reformen und gleichzeitig als Ausgangspunkt für Verbesserungen der Lehrerbildung untersucht.
Abstract (english): On the base of a retrospect into the history of German education since the 17th and 18th centuries this paper is devoted to current debates on teacher education in Germany. It focuses the analysis of problem areas which are expressed as a confrontation between opposing trends. A special section deals with two pilot projects at German universities aimed at implementing the innovatory 'two-level' model, as proposed in the Bologna declaration. As regards the state of the arts, the system of teacher education in Germany is positively assessed, as far as its basic qualities are discussed. However, deficits are identified in the non-sufficient co-ordination of subject knowledge and profession-oriented training within the university curriculum as well as in the lacking connection of the two consecutive training places. Finally, the shocking outcomes of the TIMSS and the first PISA studies are considered as a definite challenge to thorough reforms and, at the same time, as a starting point for amelioration of teacher education.
