Abstract:
This study conducted a simulation study for computer-adaptive testing based on the Aachen Depression Item Bank (ADIB), which was developed for the assessment of depression in persons with somatic diseases. Prior to computer-adaptive test simulation, the ADIB was newly calibrated.Recalibration was performed in a sample of 161 patients treated for a depressive syndrome, 103 patients from cardiology, and 103 patients from otorhinolaryngology (mean age 44.1, SD = 14.0; 44.7% female) and was cross-validated in a sample of 117 patients undergoing rehabilitation for cardiac diseases (mean age 58.4, SD = 10.5; 24.8% women). Unidimensionality of the itembank was checked and a Rasch analysis was performed that evaluated local dependency (LD), differential item functioning (DIF), item fit and reliability. CAT-simulation was conducted with the total sample and additional simulated data.Recalibration resulted in a strictly unidimensional item bank with 36 items, showing good Rasch model fit (item fit residuals < |2.5|) and no DIF or LD. CAT simulation revealed that 13 items on average were necessary to estimate depression in the range of − 2 and + 2 logits when terminating at SE ≤ 0.32 and 4 items if using SE ≤ 0.50. Receiver Operating Characteristics analysis showed that θ estimates based on the CAT algorithm have good criterion validity with regard to depression diagnoses (Area Under the Curve ≥ .78 for all cut-off criteria). The recalibration of the ADIB succeeded and the simulation studies conducted suggest that it has good screening performance in the samples investigated and that it may reasonably add to the improvement of depression assessment.

Abstract:
In this article, the authors describe the multiple phases of a project that was constructed around the real case of a young Muslim student who wished to be exempted from coeducational physical education on religious grounds. When the school refused her initial request, she decided to take legal measures which ended up in the German Federal Administrative Court. The court ultimately ruled in her favour. Her case was selected as the core ingredient for a new teaching project, which studies acculturation from different perspectives, and examines the complex balance between individual rights and societal duties, as defined by constitutional law in the Federal Republic of Germany. This case demonstrates that the majority society, represented in this study by the school, at times needs to change traditional educational policy in order to further national goals of integration; not as a compromise, but as a fair balance of interests. The project was implemented successfully as an integrated part of teacher preservice education occurring towards the end of the first academically based phase of their training.

Abstract:

Abstract (english):
Modern assessments are increasingly based on complex lest materials, which are often implemented äs simulations. These Interactive assessment Instruments enable students to use the system in various ways. For this reason, students' interactions with a lest delivery platform are stored in automatically generated log files but during the assessment process a large amount of log data is accumulated with various characteristics (clicking, typed answers, and timing-related data). For an efficient analysis of these human-computer interactions' data, it is necessary to gain information about the actual test-taking processes. One very promising way of examining test-taking behaviour is visual data exploration, which is focused in our study. The main objective of this paper is to illustrate how Information visualization can help the educational measurement with exploring students' activities in computer-based assessment. It gives insights into visual representations that are useful in depicting test-taking behaviour, identifying trends in students' activities in simulation-based assessment, and examining individual differences on the grounds of test-taking processes. We therefore applied tools and visualization layouts, which Support educational practitioners in making use of the data assembled in computerized lest delivery.

Abstract (english):
Agent-based computer simulation was used to create artificial communities in which each individual was constructed according to the principles of the elaboration likelihood model of Petty and Cacioppo [ 1986. The elaboration likelihood model of persuasion. In: Berkowitz, L. ( Ed.), Advances in Experimental Social Psychology. Academic Press, New York, NY, pp. 123-205]. Campaigning strategies and community characteristics were varied systematically to understand and test their impact on attitudes towards environmental protection. The results show that strong arguments influence a green (environmentally concerned) population with many contacts most effectively, while peripheral cues have the greatest impact on a non-green population with fewer contacts. Overall, deeper information scrutiny increases the impact of strong arguments but is especially important for convincing green populations. Campaigns involving person- to-person communication are superior to mass-media campaigns because they can be adapted to recipients' characteristics. (DIPF/Autor)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Autor)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
