Abstract (english): The aim of the present study was to clarify the nature of the ability-specific and position-specific components of Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) by relating them to a number of types of attention. The ability-specific component represents the constant part of cognitive performance whereas the position-specific component reflects the changes in processing of reasoning items as a result of the changing item position. A special model denoted fixed-links model was used to decompose the data of APM into independent components. Both components were related to two higher-order units of attention, perceptual attention and executive attention, which were derived from the various types of attention. In a sample of 226 participants the position-specific component of APM showed a substantially higher link with executive attention than with perceptual attention whereas the ability-specific component only showed a moderate link with perceptual attention.

Abstract: An einer Stichprobe von Gymnasiasten und Studierenden wurde der Einfluss der Impulsivität auf schlussfolgerndes Denken untersucht. Die PRF Impulsivitäts-Skala (Jackson, 1974), die MMPI Impulsivitäts-Skala (Gough, 1957) and die FPIErregbarkeits-Skala (Fahrenberg, Hampel, & Selg, 1994) wurden für die Repräsentation von Impulsivität gewählt. Schlussfolgerndes Denken wurde mit figuralen und numerischen/alphanumerischen Skala für schlussfolgerndes Denken (Horn, 1983) gemessen. Außerdem wurden Maße für Neurotizismus, Extraversion, Leistungsorientierung und Surgency angewendet. Substantielle negative Korrelationen des schlussfolgernden Denkens mit Impulsivität und Neurotizismus wurden gefunden. Ein Strukturgleichungsmodell wurde für die Prognose von schlussfolgerndem Denken vermittels von Impulsivität/Neurotizismus angewendet. Dabei wurde ein Pfadkoeffizient von -.35 gefunden. Dieses Ergebnis ist in Übereinstimmung mit der Vermutung, dass ein hoher Grad an Impulsivität die Leistung bei der Bearbeitung von Aufgaben für schlussfolgerndes Denken beeinträchtigt.
Abstract (english): In a sample of 108 high school and university students the influence of impulsivity on reasoning was investigated. The PRF Impulsivity Scale ( Jackson, 1974), the MMPI Impulsivity Scale (Gough, 1957) and the FPI Impulsiveness Scale (Fahrenberg, Hampel, & Selg, 1994) were selected for the representation of impulsivity. Reasoning was assessed by the Figural Reasoning Scale (Horn, 1983) and the Numeric/Alphabetical Reasoning Scale (Horn, 1983). The study additionally included measures of neuroticism, extraversion, achievement orientation and surgency. Substantial negative correlations of reasoning with impulsivity and neuroticism were found. Structural equation modeling was applied forpredicting reasoning by means of an impulsivity/neuroticism composite. A path coefficient of -.35 was observed. This result suggests the interpretation that a high degree of impulsivity impairs performance in completing reasoningtasks.
