Abstract (english): The statistical techniques which cover the process of modeling and evaluating
consumer credit risk have become widely accepted instruments in risk management.
In contrast, we find only few and vague statements on how to define the default
event, i. e. on the concrete circumstances that lead to the decision of identifying a
certain credit as defaulted. Based on a large data set of individual payment histories
this paper investigates a possible solution to this problem in the area of installment
purchase. The proposed definition of default is based on the time due amounts are
outstanding and the resulting profitability of the receivables portfolio. Furthermore,
to assess the individual payment performance during the credit period, indicators for
monitoring and forecasting default events are derived. The empirical results show
that these indicators generate valuable information which can be used by the creditor
to improve his credit and collection policy and hence, to improve cash flows and
reduce bad debt loss.

Abstract (english): The main purpose of this paper is to examine more closely the tension between, on the one hand, forms of internal school improvement based on internal evaluation measures and, on the other hand, control and legitimisation needs grounded on external evaluation measures. The clash of these forms of evaluation is at the core of the paper, dealing in particular with the changing evaluation systems in the Cypriot education system. Therefore, the case study approach is utilised here. More specifically, the case of Cyprus is used as a system under transition in order to move from a primarily teacher inspection system, which is externally driven, to a combination of a teacher/school inspection system, which is based on both external and internal processes and is directed at both formative and summative evaluation processes. Title: Case study: XLIFF in a large-scale international OECD-study
In: Anastasiou, Dimitria; Vázquez, Lucia Morado (Hrsg.): First International XLIFF Symposium, Limerick: Univ., 2010 , S. 17-19

Abstract: Das Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) ist eine von der OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) in Auftrag gegebene und von den teilnehmenden Ländern finanzierte Studie.
Abstract (english): The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is a study organised by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and funded by the participating countries. It assesses skills of adults in 27 countries (35 national versions totalling 24 languages). This is done by administering tests to people aged 16 to 65. The tests are delivered on computer or on paper, depending on the participant s familiarity with information technology. The survey measures literacy and numeracy skills in the participants and collects their background data. In addition, the computer-based version measures how well the participants can solve problems in technology-rich environments, e.g. problems that involve finding information on a web-page.
XLIFF was used for the entire translation, adaptation and verification process of the computer-based test material. The rationale for this was to completely separate the text from the layout. The translation of paper-based files was done in word documents. The Open Language Tool (OLT) was used to translate, edit and verify computer-based test materials and background questionnaires. Every upload of a translated XLIFF file made it possible to preview the translated item online. All in all, several thousand different XLIFF files with tens of thousands of distinct versions have been processed so far in the PIAAC study.
The translation and adaptation process showed strengths and weaknesses of our workflow as well as of the XLIFF approach.
As examples of the drawbacks: the central generation of previews was slow in times of heavy usage of the translation portal; there was a relatively high occurrence of crashes in using the OLT translation editor; corrupt XLIFF files were sometimes detected relatively late in the process, so that a set of motions had to be repeated; maintenance of TMs posed a variety of unexpected challenges; inline formatting that involves tag edition seemed difficult to handle for translators who were not sufficiently familiar with the tool; and the installation and use varied across operating systems.
On the positive side: the strict separation of layout and text content was extremely useful in comparison to the translation of MS Word-files mentioned above, where some translators introduced errors and layout changes; the spellchecking options worked well for those languages for which dictionaries were available; different scripts and alphabets were processed smoothly; propagation of 100% matches across XLIFF files worked in a satisfactory way; and, in general, the format was deemed suitable for a mix of players with advanced knowledge of CAT tools and others with virtually no experience with this type of interface.

Abstract (english): This contribution presents and evaluates a model learning environment consisting of Web 2.0 applications. We assume that the technological change of Web2.0 applications has also caused a cultural change in terms of dealing with types of communication, knowledge and learning. The answers given by e-learning scholars who intend to use the creative options offered by Web 2.0 applications in educational institutional learning are summarised in the first part, thus providing the requirements and basic functional components for the development of a particular Web 2.0 learning environment. This learning environment consists of several components ( modules), that is well-known Web 2.0 applications such as wikis, weblogs, social bookmarking services and RSS feeds. The paragraph describing the implementation of the learning environment in a use case at the Darmstadt University of Applied Science focuses on the specific didactic contribution the particular learning modules render towards the entire learning arrangement. We will explain the didactic potential of the wiki platform here in more detail, since it serves as the integrating module (or learning centre) of the learning arrangement. This learning environment was tested in the seminar "Social Software" held in the information science study course at Darmstadt University of Applied Science in 2007/08. A concluding questionnaire-based survey reveals interesting facts regarding the success of the practical implementation of the Web 2.0 arrangement with respect to learner motivation, and learning outcomes of students.(DIPF/Autor)

Title: Rehabilitation of arithmetic fact retrieval via extensive practice. A combined fMRI and behavioural case-study

Abstract (english): The present study investigates the effects of a training of arithmetic fact retrieval in a patient suffering from particular difficulties with multiplication facts. Over a period of four weeks simple multiplication facts were trained extensively. The outcome of the training was assessed behaviourally and changes in cerebral activation patterns were investigated using fMRI. The training led to a change in calculation strategies: Prior to training, the patient used predominantly time-consuming back-up strategies, after training he relied increasingly on the direct retrieval of arithmetic facts from long- term memory. Regarding the fMRI results, prefrontal activations were observed for untrained problems, which can be attributed to the application of back-up strategies strongly relying on fronto-executive functions. Interestingly, significant foci of activation for both trained and untrained items were found in the angular gyrus of the right hemisphere, which, however, differed in their exact localisation. For the trained condition, activations were observed in anterior parts of the angular gyrus which may be related to the training-based automatisation in fact retrieval. Activations in the untrained condition were found in a more posterior portion of the angular gyrus, that might be attributable to one of the patient's back-up strategies, namely to recite a whole multiplication row to get to the correct answer.
