Abstract:
Learning Analytics (LA) consists of miscellaneous steps that include data harvesting, storing, cleaning, anonymisation, mining, analysis, and visualisation so that the vast amount of educational data is comprehensible and ethically utilisable by educators or instructors to obtain the advantages and benefits that LA can bring to the educational scene. These include the potential to increase learning experiences and reduce dropout rates. In this chapter, we shed light on OER repositories, LA, and LA dashboards and present an implementation of a research-driven LA dashboard for displaying OER and their repositories that allows the visualisation of educational data in an understandable way for both educators and learners. Moreover, we present an LA dashboard for displaying OER that shows information about the existing German OER repositories as part of our EduArc project located in Germany. The LA dashboard consists of multiple adopted indicators and metrics such as the number of reading sessions, duration of reading sessions, number of reading interruptions, number of learning activities, student attendance, and student grades. The details of the research methodology, including a literature review to create this dashboard, as well as the display items of the dashboard are presented and further elaborated. (DIPF/Autor)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
This paper describes open learning and teaching materials, so-called open educational resources (OER), as visualizing, economic and normative objects, and classifies these into a plenum with interwoven practices and arrangements of material (Schatzki). The plenum determines how the actors, their socio-material practices, and the associated political and technical frameworks each generate different interpretations of OER for the actors. The discussion is based on a case study of a video platform providing academic content. The empirical example, studied via document analysis and content analysis, of the TIB AV portal as an educational infrastructure offering videos of scientific conferences and teaching as an online service shows how the normative requirements to open educational resources are produced by the infrastructure. The paper focuses on the argument that the normative dimension of OER be part of material arrangements. The normative OER model is implemented in the infrastructure, while the social norms of openness are provided by the service. OER in terms of normative objects embodying the norm of openness are produced performatively through repositories. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
This study analyses the quality of 28 OGPs, 18 on the city level, 7 on the state level, and 3 at the national level. The focus of this study is on identifying and analyzing the gap in open educational data. While the portals contain 94% 'open' datasets, most of the portals do not provide comprehensive usage metrics like the data download, evidence of usage in research or applications. Finally, the paper highlights the main shortcomings of the existing open data portals regarding the quality of datasets and the lack of findability and granularity. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
In today's world, which has recently seen fractures and isolation forming among states, international and interdisciplinary collaboration is an increasingly important source of progress. Collaboration is a rich source of innovation and growth. It is the goal of the Collaborative European Research Conference (CERC2020) to foster collaboration among friends and colleagues across disciplines and nations within Europe. CERC emerged from long-standing cooperation between the Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland and Hochschule Darmstadt - University of Applied Sciences, Germany. CERC has grown to include more well-established partners in Germany, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Italy, and many more. CERC is truly interdisciplinary, bringing together new and experienced researchers from science, engineering, business, humanities, and the arts. At CERC researchers not only present their findings as published in their research papers. They are also challenged to collaboratively work out joint aspects of their research during conference sessions and informal social events and gatherings. Organizing such an event involves the hard work of many people. COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our daily life and research. It has been a significant change to CERC2020 and this is the first time the conference was held virtually online. The conference has received submissions from worldwide, not just European countries. Thanks go to the international program committee and my fellow program chairs, particularly to Prof Udo Bleimann for invaluable support throughout the conference. Prof Ingo Stengel, Dr. Haiying Wang, Dr. Ali Haithem, and Dr. Stefanie Regier for supporting me in the review process. Dirk Burkhardt and Dr. Robert Loew put a great effort into setting up the website and conference management system and preparing the conference programme and proceedings. Thank my colleagues from Ulster University, Hochschule Karlsruhe and Hochschule Darmstadt, and the Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland for providing invaluable support to the conference. CERC2020 has received supports from Ulster University, VIsit Belfast, and Belfast City Council. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
As Internet sources provide information of varying quality, it is an indispensable prerequisite skill to evaluate the relevance and credibility of online information. Based on the assumption that competent individuals can use different properties of information to assess its relevance and credibility, we developed the EVON (evaluation of online information), an interactive computer-based test for university students. The developed instrument consists of eight items that assess the skill to evaluate online information in six languages. Within a simulated search engine environment, students are requested to select the most relevant and credible link for a respective task. To evaluate the developed instrument, we conducted two studies: (1) a pre-study for quality assurance and observing the response process (cognitive interviews of n = 8 students) and (2) a main study aimed at investigating the psychometric properties of the EVON and its relation to other variables (n = 152 students). The results of the pre-study provided first evidence for a theoretically sound test construction with regard to students' item processing behavior. The results of the main study showed acceptable psychometric outcomes for a standardized screening instrument with a small number of items. The item design criteria affected the item difficulty as intended, and students' choice to visit a website had an impact on their task success. Furthermore, the probability of task success was positively predicted by general cognitive performance and reading skill. Although the results uncovered a few weaknesses (e.g., a lack of difficult items), and the efforts of validating the interpretation of EVON outcomes still need to be continued, the overall results speak in favor of a successful test construction and provide first indication that the EVON assesses students' skill in evaluating online information in search engine environments. Abstract:
We present the concept of an intelligent system which combines web search for learning purposes and state-of-the-art natural language processing techniques. Our concept is described for the case of teaching information literacy, but has the potential to be applied to other courses or for independent acquisition of knowledge through web search. The concept supports both, students and teachers. Furthermore, the approach integrates issues like AI explainability, privacy of student information, assessment of the quality of retrieved information and automatic grading of student performance. Abstract (english):
A critical evaluation of results to find useful information is essential when doing a web search. In this study, we investigated the evaluation skills of secondary school students, based on their behavior in selecting links from a search engine result page (SERP). To clarify the role of reading when evaluating online information, we assessed students' individual reading skills on word, sentence, and text level. Data from 416 15-year-old students participating in a computer based German add-on study to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2012 were investigated. Using generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs), it was found that reading skills affected the ability to evaluate online information. These effects were influenced by the distinctiveness of information in relevance and students' navigation to subsequent SERPs or websites. The results are interpreted to show that skilled readers are able to allocate their cognitive resources more efficiently than less skilled readers when evaluating online information. Implications are discussed in terms of underlying cognitive processes when making web search decisions. (DIPF/Orig.)
