Abstract:
Although feedback is a popular topic in educational research, the question of how and on what conditions feedback in mathematics affects learning seldom has been addressed. In this study, we investigated: (1) whether process-oriented feedback in mathematics leads to greater interest and higher achievement development compared to social-comparative feedback; (2) whether students' perception of feedback with regard to usefulness and competence support mediates these effects; and (3) whether the impact of feedback is moderated by students' mastery approach goal orientation. To answer these research questions, 146 ninth-grade intermediate school students in Germany were randomly assigned to both feedback conditions. Results of path analyses revealed (1) no significant total feedback effects on interest and achievement development, but (2) indirect effects on the development of interest via perceived competence support and usefulness, and on achievement development via perceived usefulness, as well as (3) a moderation effect of mastery approach goal orientation on the impact of feedback on perceived usefulness.

Abstract:
Would you target your audience differently, knowing the real age and gender of the text authors on your website forum? This paper examines hundreds of thousands of online documents, e.g. chat lines or blog posts, showing that computers are capable to address this task better than humans, without relying on content stereotypes. Pointing out that age and gender profiling are not independent problems, we approach the task as a multiclass classification problem, combining the age and gender information to define six classes. Utilizing a wide range of stylistic and content features and a large number of readability measures we demonstrate the high predictive abilities of the parts of speech, the punctuation and the amount of emotions and slang used in the text, independently of the topic discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
The paper introduces a praxeological perspective, inspired by the documentary method on observing methods in social sciences. Especially ethnography and videography are focused. First, the possibility to develop lenses of observation in both approaches is discussed as well as the possibility to control the "stationarity / Standortgebundeheit" (Mannheim) of the researchers. Second, the construction of data within the field, their editing and interpretation (aiming at generalisation) is analysed from a praxeological perspective. In the conclusions the insights of a praxeological approach in relation to the chosen methods are reconsidered.

Abstract:
In this paper, we study the problem of efficiently finding similar movements in positional data streams, given a query trajectory. Our approach is based on a translation-, rotation-, and scale-invariant representation of movements. Near- neighbours given a query trajectory are then efficiently computed using dynamic time warping and locality sensitive hashing. Empirically, we show the efficiency and accuracy of our approach on positional data streams recorded from a real soccer game.

Abstract:
Thread disentanglement is the task of separating out conversations whose thread structure is implicit, distorted, or lost. In this paper, we perform email thread disentanglement through pairwise classification, using text similarity measures on non-quoted texts in emails. We show that i) content text similarity metrics outperform style and structure text similarity metrics in both a class-balanced and class-imbalanced setting, and ii) although feature performance is dependent on the semantic similarity of the corpus, content features are still effective even when controlling for semantic similarity. We make available the Enron Threads Corpus, a newly-extracted corpus of 70,178 multiemail threads with emails from the Enron Email Corpus.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract (english):
The author compares pupils in Rheinland-Pfalz (Germany) with regard to their education in mainstreaming or in special schools. Then he copares the aspect whether they have a German or a foreign nationality or a migration background. The author compares in view to how the pupils graduate from school.

Abstract (english):
Person-environment relationships become particularly important in later life. Our discussion of challenges in the assessment of experiential person-environment exchange processes is grounded on a four-domain model of perceived housing. We present empirical findings from an iterative process of instrument revision seeking optimization of both reliability and validity issues regarding controlrelated and meaning-oriented domains of perceived housing. Our initial reconstruction, however, was not confirmed to represent a consistent and reliable measure for the suggested dimensions of housing-related identity, privacy, and autonomy. Exploratory posthoc analyses of the pilot pool of indicators suggests six holistic facets, such as "daily independence" "neighborhood belonging", "mirror of self", "continuity and remaining in place" and "being alone and at peace". Plausible content-related interpretation and relations to major background characteristics encourage the continuous task of tailoring assessment instruments to meet the holistic character of housing experiences in later life.
