Abstract (english): Scholarly Editions constitute a fundamental contribution to the history of scholarship and research in the humanities, both materially and intellectually. Despite this central role, compiling and publishing editions in print versions has become increasingly problematic. The Bibliothek für Bildungsgeschichtliche Forschung, a research library for educational history, has developed an effective model for cooperation between scholarly editors and information specialists to make these sources available to the research community as digital editions, simultaneously ensuring broad access for users and the long term preservation of the source materials. While scholars retain primary responsibility for the intellectual integrity of the edition, the library envisions a new and broader role for itself in providing technical competency and integrated assistance throughout the process. This division of labour enables the library to serve as technical steward not just on each discrete editing project, but also to serve as an aggregator to link together editions with other relevant library services in order to form a coherent and flexible information architecture for scholarship in the 21st century.
