Abstract (english): French language is less and less chosen in German schools and also German in France. On the other hand foreign languages are increasingly to be used in a subject-based context. On that background school exchange offers the possibility to raise interest and motivation to the necessity for the language and in addition, for country and people. If school exchange should be able to develop its motivating potential, then it applies to extend it to a co- operation between the schools in the sense of an "education by exchange and encounters". Apart from a short outline of the historical background the text offers a broad spectrum at co-operation experiences, with which the "dialogical learning" concept is made both conceptually and methodically practically clear.
