Abstract (english): This article focuses on a library collection containing around 9,000 titles of Pädagogische Lesungen [Pedagogical Lectures] (PL), compiled and centrally awarded in the GDR from 1961 to 1989. This contribution gives an initial overview of the current state of research and a comprehensive description of the material diversity of the collection. Besides the historical specificity and heterogeneous composition of the unique material, the article also examines the function and use of the lectures within the centrally organised system of teacher training in the GDR. From an educational and contemporary educational perspective, the scientific utilisation of this multilayered source material is highly lucrative, since it can provide information on the (re)production, mediation and transformation of subject-specific content and school-specific knowledge. Professional debates reflected in those lectures provide valuable inspiration for research into the history and practice of subject teaching in the GDR, as well as for the professionalisation of teachers. In addition to questions concerning the relationship between theory and practice or terminology, the collection can also be used to trace the availability and emergence of new media and materials, which were reflected in the methodological-didactic design of subject teaching and also in the preparation of the PL themselves. Thus, the expansive material offers diverse approaches to research for a wide range of disciplines such as linguistics and cultural sciences, historical and political sciences, and information and media sciences as well as subject didactics.

Abstract: Gegenstand des Beitrags ist die Beschreibung einer rund 9.000 Titel umfassenden Sammlung aller zentral in der DDR prämierten Pädagogischen Lesungen der Jahre 1961 bis 1989. Neben der historischen Spezifität und heterogenen Zusammensetzung des unikalen Bestandes kommen die Funktion und der Gebrauch der Pädagogischen Lesungen im Rahmen des zentralen Weiterbildungssystems für Lehrkräfte der DDR zur Sprache. Der in der bisherigen Forschung weitgehend unbeachtet gebliebene Quellenbestand ist Teil der Sondersammlungen der BBF | Bibliothek für Bildungsgeschichtliche Forschung, Abteilung des DIPF | Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsforschung und Bildungsinformation in Berlin. Aus bildungs- und zeithistorischer Perspektive ist die wissenschaftliche Bearbeitung des Bestandes außerordentlich gewinnbringend. Darüber hinaus bietet er auch für Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschafter anderer Fachbereiche und Disziplinen - etwa Sprach- und Kulturwissenschaften, Geschichts- und Politikwissenschaften, Informations- und Medienwissenschaften sowie Fachdidaktiken - vielfältige Forschungszugänge und umfassendes Quellenmaterial. Abstract (english): Subject of the article is the characterisation of a collection containing about 9,000 titles of pedagogical lectures (PL) - compiled and centrally awarded in the GDR from 1961 to 1989. Besides historical specificity and heterogeneous composition of the unique material, function and use of the PL within the centrally organised system of teacher training in the GDR are being examined. The source material, which was previously unnoticed by research, is part of the special collections at the Research Library for the History of Education (BBF) of the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education in Berlin. From an educational and contemporary historical perspective the scientific analysis is highly profitable. In addition, the expansive material offers diverse approaches to research for a wide range of disciplines such as linguistic and cultural sciences, historical and political sciences, information and media sciences as well as subject-related didactics. Abstract (english): The Research Library for the History of Education is a library with an archival character, preservation and conservation issues therefore have a special significance in our work. While developing our preservation policy, cooperation with different professions and institutions has proved to be stimulating and restraining in the process. Forms of cooperative work as well as specific projects are introduced in this paper. The training and promotion of young professionals take on a central role in this context by linking theory and practice. (DIPF/Autor)
