Abstract:
Objective: To determine whether gait and accelerometric features can predict disorientation events in young and older adults. Methods: Cognitively healthy younger (18-40 years, n = 25) and older (60-85 years, n = 28) participants navigated on a treadmill through a virtual representation of the city of Rostock featured within the Gait Real-Time Analysis Interactive Lab (GRAIL) system. We conducted Bayesian Poisson regression to determine the association of navigation performance with domain-specific cognitive functions. We determined associations of gait and accelerometric features with disorientation events in real-time data using Bayesian generalized mixed effect models. The accuracy of gait and accelerometric features to predict disorientation events was determined using cross-validated support vector machines (SVM) and Hidden Markov models (HMM). Results: Bayesian analysis revealed strong evidence for the effect of gait and accelerometric features on disorientation. The evidence supported a relationship between executive functions but not visuospatial abilities and perspective taking with navigation performance. Despite these effects, the cross-validated percentage of correctly assigned instances of disorientation was only 72% in the SVM and 63% in the HMM analysis using gait and accelerometric features as predictors. Conclusion: Disorientation is reflected in spatiotemporal gait features and the accelerometric signal as a potentially more easily accessible surrogate for gait features. At the same time, such measurements probably need to be enriched with other parameters to be sufficiently accurate for individual prediction of disorientation events. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
For the integral learning/training of a psychomotor activity such as running, it is necessary to target not only the physical aspects but also the technical and mental aspects that make it up, an alternative to solve this issue is through the understanding and consideration of feedback and periodization, which are elements that constitute and influence transcendentally and differently each of the three aspects involved. That is why, in this paper, some of the definitions and classifications commonly used in the study of psychomotor skills are first cited. Likewise, the use of wearable devices is proposed as a multimodal and main technology to analyze both elements since they have provided positive results in the same field of research. Subsequently, important considerations are discussed which could serve as a starting point or a conceptual reference for the correct application and analysis of feedback and periodization in each aspect of running and possibly other similar psychomotor skills. Abstract (english):
Multimodal immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, along with rapidly evolving technologies such as AI and sensors, are redefining human-computer interaction and, consequently, the domain of technology-enhanced learning. Decades ago, the seminal work. "Bloom's 2 sigma problem", led to the inception of the potentialities of "educational technology" for personalised learning. This was immediately followed by an influx of researchers from all domains interested in education exploring various technologies in search of this promised land and the holy grail. In recent years, Ericsson with his seminal work on "deliberate practice", recapitulated much of Bloom's conclusions, giving us an epiphany that not much has changed or been achieved in education. Abstract:

Abstract (english):
The development of multimodal sensor-based applications designed to support learners with the improvement of their skills is expensive since most of these applications are tailor-made and built from scratch. In this paper, we show how the Presentation Trainer (PT), a multimodal sensor-based application designed to support the development of public speaking skills, can be modularly extended with a Virtual Reality real-time feedback module (VR module), which makes usage of the PT more immersive and comprehensive. The described study consists of a formative evaluation and has two main objectives. Firstly, a technical objective is concerned with the feasibility of extending the PT with an immersive VR Module. Secondly, a user experience objective focuses on the level of satisfaction of interacting with the VR extended PT. To study these objectives, we conducted user tests with 20 participants. Results from our test show the feasibility of modularly extending existing multimodal sensor-based applications, and in terms of learning and user experience, results indicate a positive attitude of the participants towards using the application (PT+VR module). Abstract (english):
The paper focuses on developments of virtual research environments (VREs) to enhance scholarly research practices with the specific goal to address classroom interaction analysis, using semantic technologies. Semantic Technologies give opportunity to address the recent move in Social Science towards multi-method approaches offering multi-layered research environments. VREs based on Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) provide researchers with more effective means of collaborative knowledge creation. The main challenge is capturing the multi-layered and iterative research process by participatory and evolutionary design using an agile framework development. The paper presents a heuristic research approach of Objective Hermeneutic method for qualitative data analysis in Social Sciences and Humanities. We developed a novel extension by adopting the researcher's theoretical model of Objective Hermeneutic in our VRE. This extension allows researchers to structure and interpret their data. We combine this extension with other extensions such as semantic forms to provide a user-friendly, wiki-like interface for domain experts with no prior technical expertise to easily carry out their research. As use case, the paper presents the VRE for classroom interaction which is based on two ontological models, the Objective Hermeneutic core ontology and the classroom interaction ontology, as result of authors work. Abstract (english):
In this paper the term "intra-linking" is focused to describe capabilities needed in research to create and re-arrange entities and properties of research objects. Therein, it is argued that this capability of intra-linking or re-arranging has to be taken into account to address adequately potentials for a lightweight virtual research environment (VRE). Such a VRE is exemplified by a particular realization based on Semantic MediaWiki technology, in the field of history of education, dealing with educational lexica and reference books. The term "intra-linking" serves to articulate capabilities needed by research practices in the humanities as well as specific potentials of semantic web use in this field.

Abstract (english):
We investigated whether newly developed virtual 3D environments (VEs) based on a modification of the computer game Quake III Arena® are suitable for psychological experimenting. Internal validity of data collected in VEs may be threatened due to a priori individual differences in general performance in VE navigation and in susceptibility to cybersickness. The main question was whether individual differences in performance can be diminished by means of training. Additionally, the susceptibility of different subsamples to cybersickness when moving within VEs was examined. 85 participants took part in an experiment where they had to fulfill simple tasks in three VEs. Navigation performance was measured as the time participants needed to make their way through the VEs. Differences in navigation performance between different levels of experience were diminished by training, indicating that internal validity can be obtained. A classification tree reveals that game-inexperienced female participants aged over 31 years have the highest risk of experiencing cybersickness. VEs based on modifications of computer games seem to be an extremely promising and inexpensive possibility for the administration of psychological experiments. (DIPF/Author)
