Abstract: Open science practitioners embrace the ideas of sharing and communicating their research and interests as well as collaborating with like-minded peers, i.e., practicing co-science (McKiernan et al. 2016) such as on the Open Science MOOC platform. If they admit to those goals regarding their research, it can be assumed that those researchers adapt their attitudes and practices towards learning and teaching, respectively. So, if researchers move towards open science practices, will they do so in their higher education teaching? Will education become more open? More generally, what would open science principles (Bezjak et al. 2018) in education look like, for educators and learners, respectively? (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english): Adaptive Learning Systems have been developed to improve learning success by increasing learner satisfaction, learning speed, and educational effectiveness. However, authoring adaptive eLearning structures is still a complicated task for lecturers, because they are unaccustomed to the way of thinking and to the workflows that are needed for the creation process. This paper describes a research project developing a concept that helps authors with the structure creation process, focussed on sequencing of content. Therefore, the issue was approached from the authors' perspective. First, storytelling theory has helped understand content structures and provided insights into how authors work. Second, by investigating the linear structure of learning content, information for sequencing could be extracted, providing the basis for an approach that is based on relations of different authors' content, and defining interdependencies that delinearise the content structure. Abstract (english): The paper focuses on developments of virtual research environments (VREs) to enhance scholarly research practices with the specific goal to address classroom interaction analysis, using semantic technologies. Semantic Technologies give opportunity to address the recent move in Social Science towards multi-method approaches offering multi-layered research environments. VREs based on Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) provide researchers with more effective means of collaborative knowledge creation. The main challenge is capturing the multi-layered and iterative research process by participatory and evolutionary design using an agile framework development. The paper presents a heuristic research approach of Objective Hermeneutic method for qualitative data analysis in Social Sciences and Humanities. We developed a novel extension by adopting the researcher's theoretical model of Objective Hermeneutic in our VRE. This extension allows researchers to structure and interpret their data. We combine this extension with other extensions such as semantic forms to provide a user-friendly, wiki-like interface for domain experts with no prior technical expertise to easily carry out their research. As use case, the paper presents the VRE for classroom interaction which is based on two ontological models, the Objective Hermeneutic core ontology and the classroom interaction ontology, as result of authors work. Abstract: This chapter describes perspectives for utilizing natural language processing (NLP) to analyze artifacts arising from mass collaboration on the web. In recent years, the amount of user-generated content on the web has grown drastically. This content is typically noisy and un- or at best semi-structured, so that traditional analysis tools cannot properly handle it. To discover linguistic structures in this data, manual analysis is not feasible due to the large quantities of data. In this chapter, we explain and analyze web-based resources of mass collaboration, namely, wikis, web forums, debate platforms, and blog comments. We introduce recent advances and ongoing efforts to analyze textual content in two of these resources with the help of NLP. This includes an approach to discover flows of knowledge in online mass collaboration as well as methods to mine argumentative structures in natural language text. Finally, we outline application scenarios of the previously discussed techniques and resources within the domain of education. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract: This paper discusses social media usage and quality evaluation for education related information seeking. To address this, we conducted a focus group study and an online survey with students enrolled in education related study paths. Altogether, results show that social media and classic or standard information resources do not compete but rather complement each other. Social media are primarily consulted in early phases of the information seeking process and for communication and knowledge management purposes. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract: The paper presents a web prototype that visualises different characteristics of research projects in the heterogeneous domain of educational research. The concept of the application derives from the project "Monitoring Educational Research" (MoBi) that aims at identifying and implementing indicators that adequately describe structural properties and dynamics of the research field. The prototype enables users to visualise data regarding different indicators, e.g. "research activity", "funding", "qualification project", "disciplinary area". Since the application is based on Semantic MediaWiki technology it furthermore provides an easily accessible opportunity to collaboratively work on a database of research projects. Users can jointly and in a semantically controlled way enter metadata on research projects which are the basis for the computation and visualisation of indicators.

Abstract (english): In this paper the term "intra-linking" is focused to describe capabilities needed in research to create and re-arrange entities and properties of research objects. Therein, it is argued that this capability of intra-linking or re-arranging has to be taken into account to address adequately potentials for a lightweight virtual research environment (VRE). Such a VRE is exemplified by a particular realization based on Semantic MediaWiki technology, in the field of history of education, dealing with educational lexica and reference books. The term "intra-linking" serves to articulate capabilities needed by research practices in the humanities as well as specific potentials of semantic web use in this field.
