These are just some of the questions Professor Maaz addresses. The education researcher also notes that too little attention has been paid so far to how this extraordinary situation has affected the psycho-social development of children and young people. He also emphasizes that international studies show that school closures have slowed learning rates. According to Maaz, this particularly affects lower-performing students and those from less advantaged families. What consequences this will bring is clear to him: "We will soon have to deal with greater performance heterogeneity in classes."
