The Corona pandemic with its travel restrictions and the months-long closures of educational institutions in many countries also had a serious impact on research in the field of international and comparative education.

Thus, in 2020 and 2021, research stays to conduct surveys for qualification work were hardly or not at all possible; exchange and international networking with colleagues were equally severely restricted. At the same time, a large number of researchers were forced to switch their data collection to online formats (e.g. online interviews, social media analyses, digital ethnography,...).

(Not only) For junior researchers, this context raises a number of questions for which we want to provide a space for exchange in the context of the Winter School:

  • How was the "compulsion to digitize" experienced in one's own research; how did junior researchers react in each case?
  • How do digital technologies change research? And also: What limits become visible (e.g. capacity limits of qualitative research in the evaluation of highly dynamic, data-intensive materials such as websites; Twitter & Co.)?
  • What perspectives have junior researchers* developed for themselves so far and where is there a need for further discussion/advice? What do young researchers want/feel for the future of comparative and international research?

Within the framework of the Winter School, we want to discuss these questions and topics and call on interested young researchers to contribute insights into or impressions of their respective dissertation and postdoc projects.

Abstracts can be submitted until September 30, 2021.

The Winter School will take place online, registration is free of charge. Online Registration
