Visual History of Education: An international cooperation of school museums and libraries of education has commenced

In 2018, Pictura Paedagogica Online, the archive of digitised images on the history of education provided by the Reserach Library for the History of Education (Bibliothek für Bildungsgeschichtliche Forschung, BBF) at DIPF, will receive a new, up-to-date database system and overall new concept. An important milestone on this path is the cooperation with various international educational institutions: with the Musée National de l’Éducation in France and the Nationaal Onderwijsmuseum in the Netherlands, two national school museums have been won as partners, and with the Danish Library of Education, which is part of the Aarhus University Library, a national library for education. Another partner in Germany is the Forschungsstelle Historische Bildmedien (Research Centre for Historical Visual Media) in Würzburg.

The cooperation has started with the workshop Advancement of Pictura Paedagogica organised by Dr. Stefanie Kollmann and Lars Müller on 6 December 2017 at the BBF. In preparation for a first project, objects from all the collaborating institutions regarding geography lessons in the 19th century will be brought together on a web platform at the beginning of 2018.
