The Information Center for Education at DIPF is looking for

1 PhD in Data Science - Learning Analytics

(full-time, for 3 years with opportunity for promotion, salary scale EG 13 TV-H*)

for our location in Frankfurt am Main.

Your tasks:

  • Scientific analysis and preparation of data from learning management systems, assessment systems and ubiquitous tracking devices such as wearables, cameras or beacons
  • Visualization of the results using visualization frameworks (e.g., D3.js)
  • Information retrieval techniques such as text mining and / or data mining (e.g., Python, RapidMiner, Weka, R)
  • Participation in conferences, organization of workshops, preparation of lectures and scientific publications
  • Development of an own scientific question and independent research activities in the field of learning analytics with the aim of the doctorate

Requirements:

  • Very good academic degree (master / university diploma) in computer science or a related subject area
  • Practical experience in the fields of graphical user interfaces, data mining, text mining, artificial intelligence or statistics
  • Practical experience in software design and computer programming (e.g., JavaScript, D3.js, HTML5, R, Python or other visualization techniques)
  • Practical experience in information retrieval techniques as well as text mining or data mining (e.g., RapidMiner, Weka, R, or Pyhton)
  • Proven, good analytical and statistical skills
  • Good level of English (written and spoken)
  • Abilities for academic writing and presentation

Desirable are:

  • Programming skills in the tools mentioned or the readiness to adapt them
  • Knowledge of the research field Learning Analytics or Educational Data Mining
  • Proactive behaviour and passion for research and technology
  • Creativity, self-management and collaboration skills
