The research group “Individualized Interventions” (Prof. Garvin Brod) aims to develop interventions that improve the educational prospects of children. In the "PROMPT" project, we are developing mobile technologies that support children's learning in digital environments. The applicant will be responsible for conducting studies in the area of child-app interactions/human-computer interactions (HCI) as well as for the further development of the mobile application.

The PostDoc is part of the new international research network CERES (Connecting the EdTech Research EcoSystem, more information: http://bit.ly/2VpvJBy). This interdisciplinary network with various partners in the US and Europe (host institution: University of California, Irvine) aims to shape the next generation of researchers in the field of Educational Technologies in childhood. As a member, the applicant will benefit from the network's offerings, such as funding opportunities, and will participate in the annual meeting in the USA. Research visits at partner institutions of the network are encouraged and will be fully funded.

Your tasks

  • Further development of the mobile app (software development)
  • Independent research
  • Conceptualization, planning and evaluation of studies on the optimal, child-friendly design of app components
  • Documentation and publication of results (englischsprachige Fachartikel, Konferenzbeiträge)

Requirements

  • Very good scientific university degree (PhD) in computer science, human-computer interactions, psychology, or a related discipline
  • Experience in mobile app development (e.g. Flutter, React) or other relevant programming skills and willingness to acquire the required skills
  • Strong methodological skills (qualitative and/or quantitative); experience in independent analysis of empirical data
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: digital learning environments, human-computer interactions, user-centered design
  • Keen interest in the topic area of the project
  • Publication experience in international journals
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English and at least a basic knowledge of German or the willingness to acquire this at the beginning of the job

We expect an independent way of working, personal commitment and the ability and willingness to familiarize oneself with more advanced fields of work at short notice. A cooperative partnership between members of the Individualized Interventions Lab and cooperation partners is important to us.
