Compliant with legal stipulations, the Research Data Centre Education (Forschungsdatenzentrum (FDZ) Bildung) offers quality-assured access to research data from educational research. It is a central adress for educationalists and educational researchers with regard to the archiving and provision of research data and instruments from qualitative and quantitative research. Relevant datasets and instruments for secondary usage are provided in compliance with data protection requirements in a central repository, together with contextual information on the respective studies and corresponding publications. Assessment instruments from quantitative educational research (questionnaires, scales, and tests) are documented and available in the Database for Quality of Schools (Datenbank zur Qualität von Schule, DaQS).

DaQS aims to enforce scientific exchange on instruments and promote the distribution of instruments that have already been used. Therefore, full-text scales can be inspected, and they are documented together with information about their validity. Re-usage requires adherence to guidelines for good practice in science, i. e. copyright citation (in analogy to bibliographical citation). The service is openly accessible and free of charge. However, test instruments are accessible in a protected environment.
