RABE 2 – Risk Factors and Consequences of Learning Difficulties up to Early Adulthood
The project RABE 2 examines the persistence and the psychosocial consequences of scholastic learning disabilities from primary school age up to young adulthood. The study focusses risk factors and consequences of learning disorders but will also look at participant’s coping strategies.
Between 2011 and 2014, the longitudinal study BÄRENstark! was conducted at the IDeA center, in cooperation with the universities in Hildesheim and Oldenburg. BÄRENstark! investigated the academic and cognitive development of children with learning disorders and of those without from the end of second grade up to the end of fifth grade.
Around the age of 18, the former participants will now be asked to participate in the online study RABE 2. Although much is known about the symptoms and consequences of learning disorders in childhood, only few studies have addressed the question how affected children develop further up to adulthood.
The project, therefore, examines whether the former learning problems still exist around the age of eighteen. Furthermore, we examine whether the young adults show socio-emotional problems. We will also look at participant’s resources and coping strategies.
