Democracy at School
This site provides an overview of the projects that focused on the topic of "Democracy at School ", some of which were conducted at inter-institutional level.
(1) Evaluation of the BLK programme “Learning and living democracy“
The school development programme “Learning and living democracy“ tested new forms of democracy education at ca. 170 schools. In its context, lesson-based projects were funded as well as projects for a participative organisation of schools and projects promoting the co-operation of schools with external partners. The DIPF conducted the programme’s external evaluation.

(2) The Development of Active Citizenship on the Basis of Informal Learning at School
The project analysed informal learning opportunities at school as to their democracy educational potential. Case studies of six schools provided the framework for interviewing students, teachers, social workers and school managers. Hence, different perspectives on school culture were accounted for. Critical structures for the development of democratic competencies were elicited.
Scientists from the following countries participated in the project: Cyprus, Denmark, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Rumania,

The project is based on the material provided by the Council of Europe, i.e. the “Tool for Quality Assurance of Education for Democratic Citizenship in Schools”, aiming at the promotion of the tool’s usage. A feasibility study was thus carried out in ten countries, assessing conditions of use and opportunities for its promotion.
