ELSE 3-6 – Parent Programme to Support Socio-emotional Development in Early Childhood

Children’s socio-emotional development is a key foundation for healthy relationships, mental health, and academic success. Parents play a crucial role in this process, as they contribute significantly to fostering these skills. Against this background, the ELSE 3-6 project involves the development and implementation of a digital evidence-based parenting programme in collaboration with Sesame Workshop, providing scientifically grounded knowledge and practical everyday strategies for fostering socio-emotional skills.

The scientific supervision of the project is guided by the overarching question of how parents can be supported in strengthening their parenting skills to sustainably promote their children’s socio-emotional development in an age-appropriate manner. To this end, research is being carried out both on the course as a whole and on selected practical tools for knowledge transfer. The focus is on determining which content and methods are particularly effective. Another central component of the study is the analysis of the transfer potential of the programme content. Specifically, the study examines the extent to which parents can transfer the strategies they have learned to different family contexts and everyday situations and apply them in a sustainable way.

Project Objectives

A central project goal is to identify effective, practical, and sustainable (digital) interventions that provide families with long-term support in fostering their children’s socio-emotional development. At the same time, the project aims to systematically investigate the key factors necessary for the successful implementation and effectiveness of these interventions in everyday family life.
