Klima2know – Youth-Oriented Information on Climate Change on the German Education Server

The German Education Server is working with the Hamburg Education Server to develop a new information service on climate education for young people. Integrated into the German Education Server, it is aimed specifically at teenagers and young adults, using multimedia formats, social media, etc.

Project Description

In this joint project of the German Education Server and the Hamburg Education Server climate change education is being implemented in an informative and target group oriented manner addressing young people and young adults. In order to create low-threshold access to the topic of climate change, the project relies on a variety of communication formats such as portraits of activists, contributions from influencers, interviews with researchers and initiatives, simplified charts, videos and podcasts. These formats complement informative texts tailored to the target group. Additional elements, such as quizzes, impart knowledge in a playful way. The new website will be integrated into the German Education Server and builds on the already established Klimawiki from the German and Hamburg Education Servers. Social media will directly address the young target group.

This pilot project, launched by the German Education Server in collaboration with the Education Server of the State of Hamburg, addresses the previously neglected target group of disadvantaged young people. The aim is to use reliable, well-founded information tailored to young people to impart extracurricular facts and knowledge and contribute to empowerment. The new youth service is also meant to provide insights into how the German Education Server can be further developed for this target group. To this end, user surveys will be conducted and web analytics carried out throughout the project.

Project Objectives

The aim of the pilot project on climate education is to present knowledge about climate change in a way that is tailored to young people and young adults. In addition, the information should contribute to their own engagement and empowerment in a low-threshold manner. Another goal is to gain insights into how to address young people as a target group for the further development of the German Education Server.
