Abstract(original):
Person-specific analysis treats the individual as the primary unit of investigation and aims to describe individual behavior and its development in a comprehensive way. Person-specific analysis is most powerful when within-person processes are investigated-that is, when individuals are observed repeatedly over enough occasions to allow for modeling the process dynamics for each individual. Based on such analyses, general laws, which apply similarly for all persons, can be identified. At the same time, individual differences in the way persons function can be detected and contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms that underlie behavior and its development. (DIPF/Orig.)
