Abstract(englisch):
The uniqueness of this project can be attributed to the fact that it combines ( 1) theoretical approaches related to and findings from empirical educational research, (2) the expertise of researchers in education, well known internationally, to assess the school systems in their respective countries, and (3) interpretative methods of comparative educational research. For this reason alone, the methodological approach has proved worthwhile indeed. In this context, it outlines the main conceptual challenges that arose during development of the research design for the comparative analysis. Special attention is paid to the construction of the analytical framework for the six country reports which served as a genuine basis of the comparison, to the framework for the comparative analysis and to the iterative character of the comparison. Furthermore, the paper offers a comparative analysis of the country reports with the aim of identifying criterion-oriented generalisations on the school systems of the reference countries.
