Abstract (english): There is a lively discussion taking place about an extensive reform of the school system in Germany at the moment. This discussion was aroused not at least by the results of the large scale assessement studies of the last years (TIMSS, PISA, PIRLS/IGLU) which have repeatedly shown clear deficits and reform requirements for Germany: low average achievement, high achievement spread, high correlation between social background and school success. The development of full-time schools, promoted by both the Federal Government as well as the Bundesländer, is one of the most extensive reform programs proceeded in order to compensate for the shown deficites. Full-time schools are schools in which the students, different to the "normal" half-time school in Germany, stay in school longer. Normally between about 7.30 and about 16.30 while they stay till about 12.00 or 13.00 in the usual half-time school. Various hopes and high expectations are linked to this changed organization form and the educational changes connected to that. However, till now this cannot be justified empirically. By the help of an after-inquiry for the German part of the PIRLS sample was studied whether there can be found effects of a full-time school organization in certain areas.
