Abstract:
This study investigates if motivational regulation leads to a successful learning behaviour. As theoretical background served a comprehensive theoretical model of action and learning which broadens the theory of action phases with specific elements of emotional regulation. 205 bachelor students of business administration answered an online questionnaire including 53 students with detailed data on course grades and study-time measure with a daily time-diary over a period of five months. Questionnaire Scales: Perceived Threat, Sensitive Coping, Acceptance of Responsibility, Outcome Expectancy, Self-Efficacy, Persistent Goal Pursuit: Maintenance, Persistent Goal Pursuit: Distraction, Goal Congruent Monitoring, Working with Peers, Generation of Positive Emotions, Effort Avoidance after Negative Emotions, Metacognitive Learning Strategies. In a 2-step-analysis process based on mixed-distribution models, 5 pattern of motivational regulation were identified: Pragmatic Learning Motivation (26%), Strategic Learning Motivation (21%), Threat Oriented Leaning Motivation (20%), Negative Learning Motivation (17%), Self-Determined Learning Motivation (17%). The study-time investment and grades of these 5 student types were as expected with one exception. The students with a negative learning motivation display surprisingly good grades and very high investment of learning time. This might be the result of a selection process and seems to be very simple compensation strategy for amotivation. The Integrated Model of Learning and Action seems very useful to identify different styles of motivational regulation and explaining grades as well as invested learning time.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
Learning behavior and teaching organisation are regarded as complementary components of a learning culture. Using a model of learning motivation, we investigated the learning behavior of students using a latent class analysis. We then matched the group profiles to grades and to workload, as measured by a time-budget analysis. We found that only one group of students operating under conditions typical of traditional teaching organisation was able to regulate their learning behavior sucessfully. An alternative type of teaching organisation may assist groups of students with different profiles much more effectively.

Abstract:
In this paper we focus on the effects of implicit temporal and spatial dimensions in open classroom interaction of students. More precisely, we look at temporal aspects of interaction that evolve out of cooperative interaction and how dynamics of handling time by learning partners lead to privileged positions and power within a process that shall ultimately be cooperative. Assuming that those temporal practices are qualified by and bound to spatial and material dimensions, a central question is how the specific temporal and spatial configurations in open classroom learning contribute to increasing differences between students. Particular temporal and spatial structures are both experienced by students and generated by their interactional practices in open classroom education (Löw 2001, Berdelmann 2010). With respect to the classroom, open instruction and individualization seem to demand different and more flexible spatial arrangements (Reh/Kolbe 2009). With respect to temporal issues, an increase of flexibility and individual structuring is thought to be more adapted to the "subjective" time of learners (Drews 2008, Danner 2008) than the subjection to external time regimes (Geißler 1997). However, by analyzing video sequences, we identify forms of interaction that we assume to be implicit effects of the interplay between spatial and temporal elements and which can reverse the intended benefits of flexible time and space structures that are associated with open classroom settings.

Abstract (english):
Children with impulse control deficits (i.e., children with ADHD) are known to have special problems with delaying gratifications. As making if-then plans (i.e., forming implementation intentions) has been found to benefit self-control even in individuals whose action control is chronically hampered (e.g., critical samples such as patients with frontal lobe damage, the elderly), we analyzed whether delay of gratification is facilitated in children with and without ADHD who have formed respective implementation intentions. In Study 1, forty-five inpatient children with ADHD (M age = 10.7 years) increased delay of gratification performance after having formed respective implementation intentions. Study 2 replicated this finding in an outpatient sample of children with ADHD (n = 47, M age = 10.3 years) and also in a comparison group of children without ADHD (n = 40, M age = 11.3 years). Results are discussed with respect to their implications for action control in children with ADHD as well as research on implementation intentions and delay of gratification.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
Children with ADHD are inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive. These symptoms result in disorders of learning as well as in frequent conflicts with parents, teachers, and peers. ADHD symptoms are explained by self-regulation deficits. Hence, difficulties shown by children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD are assumed to be related to self-regulation deficits as well as to executive function deficits and mainly deficits in cognitive control. Therefore, interventions that aim to facilitate self-regulation in children with ADHD (i. e., if-then-plans) are particularly promising.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
"Individual fostering" is defined as educative action consistently taking into consideration individual preconditions of learning and education. In the past decade, the term has become a central topic in the public debate on education. In the scientific literature, however, it surfaces by far less frequently because it describes a feature of pedagogical action which is more or less self-evident. The authors analyze the educational and political discourse on the topic, and subsequently outline different variants of a pedagogical concept of individual fostering, mostly discussed under different labels, as well as empirical findings regarding the efficiency of these variants. Finally, the mechanisms underlying effective individual fostering are described, and perspectives for the pedagogical practice and for educational and psychological research on individual support are outlined.

Abstract:
Hedonism, or wanting to feel good, is central to human motivation. At times, however, people also seek to maintain or enhance negative affect or to dampen positive affect, and this can be instrumental for the later attainment of their goals. Here, we investigate the assumption that such contra-hedonic orientation is cognitively more demanding than prohedonic orientation, above and beyond the effects of momentary affective experience. We provided 378 participants with mobile phones that they carried with them for 3 weeks while pursuing their daily routines. The phones prompted participants at least 54 times to report their current affect-regulation orientation and to work on two trials of a cognitively demanding working memory task. As expected, contra-hedonic orientation was substantially less prevalent than prohedonic orientation. It was reported in 15% of the measurement occasions. Participants who reported on average more contra-hedonic orientation showed lower average working memory performance throughout the study interval. Further, controlling for the effects of accompanying affective experiences, momentary occurrences of contra-hedonic orientation were associated with temporary declines in working memory performance within individuals, and this could neither be explained by lacking task compliance nor by other characteristics of the individual or the situation. Prohedonic orientation showed a considerably smaller association with working memory performance. These findings are consistent with the view that contra-hedonic orientation is accompanied by momentarily more diminished cognitive resources than is prohedonic orientation.
