Abstract (english): The transition from primary to secondary school represents a challenging life event. This study examined 108 children (age M = 10.11 years, SD = 0.44) in Germany during the first 12 weeks at a new school. Daily satisfaction and frustration of the basic need for relatedness were examined as predictors of subjective well-being versus ill-being and adjustment versus psychopathology. Subjective well-being or ill-being was assessed at weeks 3 - 4 and week 11 of the school year. In between, there was a 4-week period of daily assessments of perceived relatedness satisfaction and frustration. Teachers indicated each child's psychological adjustment or psychopathology (e. g., emotional symptoms) in weeks 11 - 12. Daily relatedness satisfaction was associated with increases in positive affect from weeks 3 - 4 to week 11, while daily relatedness frustration was linked to an increase in negative affect and school anxiety. Furthermore, daily relatedness satisfaction was negatively linked to teacher-reported emotional symptoms and peer problems at weeks 11 - 12, and daily relatedness frustration was positively associated with teacher-reported conduct problems and hyperactivity-inattention. Abstract: To slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus, schools around the world were closed in early 2020, transferring children's scholastic activities to the homes and imposing a massive burden on parents and school-age children. Using data of a 21-day diary study conducted between March and April 2020 in Germany, this work examined whether (a) distance learning and (b) parents' involvement therein were associated with negative parent-child interactions and affective well-being of parents and children, over and above the effect of daily stressors. Participants were 562 parents (489 mothers, Mage = 42.79, SDage = 6.12, range = 25-63) most of whom were married (n = 382, 68.0%). They responded to the daily items with respect to the youngest child living in their household (Mage = 9.74, SDage = 2.81, range = 6-19). On days when children were working on school tasks, parents reported more negative parent-child interactions as well as lower parental and child positive affect and higher child negative affect, but not higher parental negative affect. Moreover, days when parents were more heavily involved in learning (i.e., when children worked less independently) were days with more negative parent-child interactions, lower parental and child positive affect, and higher parental and child negative affect. Negative parent-child interactions were linked to lower affective well-being of parents and children, and partially accounted for the relation among daily stressors and affective well-being. The present work highlights the need for measures to better support school-age children and their parents during distance learning. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract: Background: The COVID-19 outbreak came with an unprecedented opportunity to investigate how the new reality of social distancing and limited international travel will affect the organization of academic conferences.
Objectives: Drawing on conceptualization of academic conferences as professional learning spaces, in this study, we examine the factors associated with the perceived value of purely virtual academic conferences and how such perceptions differ between participants from different research fields. The aim was to gain knowledge about factors that should be considered when designing a virtual conference.
Methods: Survey data from participants of three different virtual conferences were collected (N = 311). Kendall's rank correlation and χ2-analyses were performed.
Results and Conclusion: Results show satisfaction with social interaction, the extent to which presentations met participants' topics of interest and the perceived importance of learning and getting an overview on the research topic to be related to the value rating. Researchers from different research fields differ significantly in their opinion about the most appropriate conference format regarding getting an overview on the research topic. For some researchers, virtual participation might be a valuable alternative to attending a conference in person. The study serves as a first attempt to understand how and for which target groups virtual conferences serve as a valuable learning event. Further research on this conference format is needed.
Lay Description
What is already known about the topic: Prior to the pandemic only a few academic conferences were held purely virtual, thus scientific knowledge about this event format was rather scarce. Research on face-to-face conferences identified these events as platforms for networking and learning with a focus on social interaction. Mainly informal social interaction and networking is limited in the virtual space.
What this paper adds: First insights how and for which target groups virtual conferences serve as a valuable learning event. Perceptions about the most appropriate conference format regarding certain conference aspects among researchers from different fields.
Implications for practice: Formal interaction opportunities should be considered when designing a virtual conference. Virtual conferences are valuable events especially for those people, who focus on learning.

(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (english): In the field of inclusive education, there is currently great interest in measuring the attitudes of teachers towards inclusion. An in-depth study of literature has shown, however, a lack of coherence between the existing tools, and an inclusive paradigm which is not focused exclusively on students with disabilities. Having identified (Kielblock, 2018) a coherent instrument, the purpose of this study is the Italian translation and validation of this questionnaire. The process involved double-blind back-translation; cultural adaptation in collaboration with researchers and teachers; and statistical validation on a sample of 272 teachers. The result is a questionnaire of 26 items, with solid univariate properties, good factorial consistency and appropriate reliability (α = 0.811 for the attitude scale, α = 0.785 for the self-efficacy scale). Abstract: Social presence is a central concept relating to interpersonal aspects in online distance learning. However, the conditions and determinants of its emergence are not yet fully understood. As a construct rooted in social psychology, the potential of individual differences predicting perceptions of social presence has been largely neglected, thus, constituting a gap in our understanding. In a sample of 201 online distance education students, the merits of a trait-level view of social presence were investigated. To this end, personality was assessed using the Big Five personality inventory, exploring both a dimensional and a typological approach. Results suggest that specific personality typologies may be more prone to perceptions of social presence, thus calling for an extension of our theoretical modeling of the construct. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract: For service implementations to be widely adopted, it is necessary for the expectations of the key stakeholders to be considered. Failure to do so may lead to services reflecting ideological gaps, which will inadvertently create dissatisfaction among its users. Learning analytics research has begun to recognise the importance of understanding the student perspective towards the services that could be potentially offered; however, student engagement remains low. Furthermore, there has been no attempt to explore whether students can be segmented into different groups based on their expectations towards learning analytics services. In doing so, it allows for a greater understanding of what is and is not expected from learning analytics services within a sample of students. The current exploratory work addresses this limitation by using the three-step approach to latent class analysis to understand whether student expectations of learning analytics services can clearly be segmented, using self-report data obtained from a sample of students at an Open University in the Netherlands. The findings show that student expectations regarding ethical and privacy elements of a learning analytics service are consistent across all groups; however, those expectations of service features are quite variable. These results are discussed in relation to previous work on student stakeholder perspectives, policy development, and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english): The Saxonian Longitudinal Study (SLS) started in 1987 in the GDR and is still carried out today. The essay asks for source-critical and methodological requirements when using social science data from a historical perspective. The study offers research in the fields of History of Education regarding research on Pupil's experiences during the transformation period. The essay offers a source critical perspective including the history of knowledge and shows examples for the reanalysis of social science data. The empirical basis for the article is the unevaluated qualitative components of the SLS questionnaires from the years 1987 to 1995, in which the test subjects were asked to describe their experiences with the upheaval of 1989/90. Questions about the evaluation of the GDR school system and memories of school days were also asked as part of the study.

Abstract: Learning analytics dashboards (LADs) are designed as feedback tools for learners, but until recently, learners rarely have had a say in how LADs are designed and what information they receive through LADs. To overcome this shortcoming, we have developed a customisable LAD for Coursera MOOCs on which learners can set goals and choose indicators to monitor. Following a mixed-methods approach, we analyse 401 learners' indicator selection behaviour in order to understand the decisions they make on the LAD and whether learner goals and self-regulated learning skills influence these decisions. We found that learners overwhelmingly chose indicators about completed activities. Goals are not associated with indicator selection behaviour, while help-seeking skills predict learners' choice of monitoring their engagement in discussions and time management skills predict learners' interest in procrastination indicators. The findings have implications for our understanding of learners' use of LADs and their design. (DIPF/Orig.)
