Abstract:
Abstract (english):
The term "Aufarbeitung" dominates when contemporary history deals with the GDR. The term's inherent instrumentalization of history for political education is problematic when historical learning tends towards being indifferent to understanding and explaining the past. The contribution analyzes this problem on the basis of the topic school and intelligence service in the GDR. Instead of focusing on impressive case histories of actions taken against schools by the national secret service, an explanation in terms of educational history is provided for the fact that the relationship between school and secret service was of no special concern historically to the society. At the same time the 40 years of history on the relationship between schools and the national secret service in the GDR is historically and systematically modelled and divided into periods.
