The Conference was part of the Erasmus+ Project Information Literacy Online (ILO), a European project to improve students' competencies. […] The Conference task was to be a forum for the exchange of research and experience associated with Information Literacy (IL) Learning. […] With different frequency, the following topics are touched by the keynotes and papers: Information literacy as a learning process, including assessment; Digital learning resources for information literacy (e.g. MOOCs, Learning-scenarios, OERs); Comparative studies of courses and curricula with an information literacy lens; Cultural diversity of information literacy; Information literacy in connection with other literacy concepts.

Abstract: Background: The COVID-19 outbreak came with an unprecedented opportunity to investigate how the new reality of social distancing and limited international travel will affect the organization of academic conferences. Objectives: Drawing on conceptualization of academic conferences as professional learning spaces, in this study, we examine the factors associated with the perceived value of purely virtual academic conferences and how such perceptions differ between participants from different research fields. The aim was to gain knowledge about factors that should be considered when designing a virtual conference. Methods: Survey data from participants of three different virtual conferences were collected (N = 311). Kendall's rank correlation and χ2-analyses were performed. Results and Conclusion: Results show satisfaction with social interaction, the extent to which presentations met participants' topics of interest and the perceived importance of learning and getting an overview on the research topic to be related to the value rating. Researchers from different research fields differ significantly in their opinion about the most appropriate conference format regarding getting an overview on the research topic. For some researchers, virtual participation might be a valuable alternative to attending a conference in person. The study serves as a first attempt to understand how and for which target groups virtual conferences serve as a valuable learning event. Further research on this conference format is needed. Lay Description What is already known about the topic: Prior to the pandemic only a few academic conferences were held purely virtual, thus scientific knowledge about this event format was rather scarce. Research on face-to-face conferences identified these events as platforms for networking and learning with a focus on social interaction. Mainly informal social interaction and networking is limited in the virtual space. What this paper adds: First insights how and for which target groups virtual conferences serve as a valuable learning event. Perceptions about the most appropriate conference format regarding certain conference aspects among researchers from different fields. Implications for practice: Formal interaction opportunities should be considered when designing a virtual conference. Virtual conferences are valuable events especially for those people, who focus on learning.

Abstract: This book presents the proceedings of the Eleventh International Network Conference (INC 2016), hosted by the Centre of Competence for Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (CCNDS) at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and the Centre for Security, Communications and Network Research at Plymouth University, UK, from 19th to 21st July 2016. A continuing aim of the INC series is to provide an opportunity for those involved in the design, development and use of network systems and applications to meet, share their ideas and exchange opinions. The 2016 event again succeeds in this aim by bringing together leading specialists from academia and industry, and enabling the presentation and discussion of the latest advances in research. These proceedings contain a total of 30 papers covering many aspects of modern networking, including web technologies, network protocols and performance, security and privacy, mobile and wireless systems, and the applications and impacts of network technology. Abstract: Ob EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen seit 2005, Flüchtlingsabkommen im Zuge der Flüchtlings"krise" ab 2015 oder Putschversuch im Juli 2016 mit entsprechenden Folge-Maßnahmen auch im Bildungssektor - die Türkei ist in der europäischen Öffentlichkeit immer wieder sehr präsent. In Deutschland bilden außerdem Menschen mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund sowie TürkInnen den größten Anteil sowohl an Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund als auch an AusländerInnen insgesamt (siehe Statistisches Bundesamt: Migration & Integration). Ein weiterer Grund also, sich für die Türkei und seine Menschen zu interessieren. Wie bereits oben erwähnt, schreckt auch die Welt der Bildung und Wissenschaft im Zuge des Putschversuchs im Juli 2016 auf: Nachrichten über entlassene WissenschaftlerInnen und LehrerInnen, über Dienstreiseverbote oder über die Stürmung des türkischen Wissenschaftszentrums (Tübitak) durch die Polizei haben die Allianz der deutschen Wissenschaftsorganisationen dazu veranlasst, eine "Stellungnahme zur Lage der Wissenschaftler in der Türkei" zu veröffentlichen. In unserem Webdossier wollen wir einen genaueren Blick auf die Bildungsforschung in der Türkei werfen. Die Informationen dazu sind wie folgt gegliedert: 1. Abstract (english): Whether it was the negotiations about the accession of Turkey to the European Union, the EU-Turkey Deal in the course of the European migrant crisis starting in 2015, or the attempted coup d`état in July 2016 with its aftermaths, including purges in the education and research sector - Turkey has often been a topic of discussion and interest in the European public sphere. In Germany, people with Turkish "migration background" together withTurkish foreigners constitute the biggest community among people with migration background and foreigners as a whole (see German Federal Institute for Population Research: Migration, integration). One more reason for us in Germany to be interested in Turkey and Turkish people. As mentioned above, people working in the education and research sector got alarmed in the aftermath of the attempted coup d`état of July 2016: News about dismissed teachers and researchers, about prohibition of official journeys or the assault of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tübitak) through police forces convinced the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany of publishing a Statement on the situation of academics in Turkey. In our webdossier, we want to throw a glance at educational research in Turkey. The information we compiled is divided into the following sections: 1. Abstract: Im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs um das Verständnis von Bildungssteuerung lassen sich verschiedene Entwicklungs- und Argumentationslinien identifizieren. Prägend für die 1990er Jahre war dabei vor allem die Debatte um die Etablierung des neuen Steuerungsmodells, die sich im Rahmen internationaler Trends des New Public Managements verortet. Gekennzeichnet durch einen Paradigmenwechsel - vom traditionellen input- hin zum output-orientierten Steuerungsverständnis - kam es zu einer grundlegenden verwaltungsorganisatorischen und strukturellen Neuausrichtung der Bildungssteuerung. Die Orientierung an der Governance-Perspektive prägt die folgenden Entwicklungen ebenso wie der Bedeutungszuwachs evaluativer Maßnahmen im Bildungswesen und der Anspruch von Politik und Verwaltung, Entscheidungen durch Wissen und handlungsleitende Informationen abzustimmen oder aber zu legitimieren. Die Ausführungen in diesem Beitrag zu den Grundlagen der Bildungssteuerung sind im Sinne einer Komplexitätsreduktion als exemplarische Beschreibung zentraler Entwicklungslinien zu betrachten und weniger als erschöpfender Diskurs theoretischer und historischer Perspektiven.
