Abstract:
Abstract (english):
The education system and educational policy played a key role in South Africa not least in combating the apartheid regime. One of the saddest "highlights" in protesting against the regime was the Soveto uprising in 1976 also known as the students' protest. The lack of educational opportunities served to keep the Black population from participation in society and economy. If you are interested in finding out more about the current situation and particularities of education in South Africa, the dossier offers information on the following aspects of education in South Africa: General information on education ; Ministries in charge and similar official institutions ; Educational reports and statistics ; (Professional) associations and unions; German commitment in South Africa ; Research literature on education in South Africa ; South Africa` BRICS cooperations.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
Owing to its population of more than a billion, India has the second largest education system in the world (after China). Its school and science offices are united under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education - they hold responsible for administering 35 states respectively federal territories. Statistical data claim that roughly a third of the population are under the age of 15. A big part of them (those aged 6 to 15) would be expected to go to school. Contrary to the images of a young and economically rising state with technical universities that take a leading role internationally, national and international studies give evidence that the country is facing many challenges. If you wish to find out more about the education system in India, the dossier offers information on the following aspects of education in India: General information on education in India; Ministries in charge and similar official institutions; Educational reports and statistics; (Professional) associations and unions; German commitment in India; Literature on education in India; India`s BRICS cooperations; Further information on India.

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
This dossier focuses on the concept of "gifted, talented" children (who are often marked as "underachievers") - in the recent past, some countries have paid increased attention to the identification of special talents and on developing interventions targeting children's respective needs. In Europe, members of the European Parliament initiated the issue of a "Written Declaration on the importance of talent support" (November 2012). This declaration was not signed by enough members of the Parliament and hence was rejected in February 2013. Since 2011, a European Talent Day is celebrated. In our dossier, you will find references to research literature, relevant organisations and networks, conferences and other relevant sites concerning giftedness.
