Abstract (english):
Introduction. Systematic reviews are a method to synthesise research results for evidence-based decision-making on a specific question. Processes of information seeking and behaviour play a crucial role and might intensively influence the outcomes of a review. This paper proposes an approach to understand the relevance assessment and decision-making of researchers that conduct systematic reviews. Method. A systematic review was conducted to build up a database for text-based qualitative analyses of researchers' decision-making in review processes. Analysis. The analysis focuses on the selection process of retrieved articles and introduces the method to investigate relevance assessment processes of researchers. Results. There are different methods to conduct reviews in research, and relevance assessment of documents within those processes is neither one-directional nor standardised. Research on information behaviour of researchers involved in those reviews has not looked at relevance assessment steps and their influence in a review's outcomes. Conclusions. A reason for the varieties and inconsistencies of review types might be that information seeking and relevance assessment are much more complex and researchers might not be able to draw upon their concrete decisions. This paper proposes a research study to investigate researcher behaviour while synthesising research results for evidence-based decision-making.

Abstract:
Open education includes the access and use of freely licensed material, which is known as open educational resources. Since the idea evolved about 20 years ago, the movement faces the challenge to motivate educators to actively use, create and distribute open learning resources. The reasons are that educators do not know where to find such resources for their discipline, and if they know common web sources, they find it hard to seek for the most relevant material. By now, there are several information seeking services for openly licensed educational material that differ in structure and functions in many respects. Some services as well offer functions to upload one's own material. A challenge for those services is to offer appropriate seeking and filtering functions to allow users an efficient and easy search. The following paper reports on a user-oriented study that evaluates six search services for open educational resources. A qualitative approach was chosen to better study the specific target group and new evolving search services. The study informs the designing of a decentralized infrastructure that offers seeking educational material from different higher educational institutions within Germany. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
This paper presents approaches and challenges to developing research software for qualitative humanities and social sciences research. While these methods so far lack a digital enhancement, we realized a range of research environments based on semantic graph technologies in research practice. In order to understand the researchers' needs and take the existing research practice seriously, a participatory and agile design approach was used by which several researchers were involved in realizing concrete research projects. A user-centered agile approach with fast prototyping was included. To materialize the needed interaction at an early stage of the research life cycle, this was accompanied by trainings, workshops, and joint paper publications in the different research communities. Abstract (english):
Assessments are an important phase in the learning process. Information and communication technologies advancements determined the development of e-learning software tools which support e-learning activities, including e-assessment. The increasing usage of summative and formative e-assessments led to the challenge of managing items. The concept of an item bank is meant to support teachers and students alike, to provide an overview when taking assessments or creating exams. This article presents an on-going R&D project towards the design and deployment of an item bank for computer-based tests, and discusses its role within a service-oriented system architecture which enables the execution of activities related to e-assessment, ranging from item design and test creation, to the analysis of event logs generated by test-takers. The research methodology followed for the requirements elicitation and main findings are presented, and directions for future work are discussed. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
The development of e-learning platforms and their extensive use in schools and universities allows students from isolated locations to remotely participate in educational activities. This article provides an analysis of prominent interoperability standards for e-learning, emphasizing their role in the development of the classroom of the future. Although current e-learning infrastructures support the remote access to learning resources and on-line assessment, the classroom of the future will reposition the professors' and students' approach to education, and will include tools and technologies for personalized learning, virtual and augmented reality, cloud computing, 3D-printing, deep learning and learning analytics. Achieving interoperability among e-learning infrastructures is essential for the classroom of the future. However, the field of e-learning has grown without a clear vision on how heterogeneous e-learning systems should inter-relate, and interoperability remains a big challenge. We analyze relevant standardization approaches which in turn shapes an overview of enabling technologies for e-learning. Finally we look at challenges for e-learning infrastructures interoperability that can shape future research, tackling inclusive education. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
International Large-Scale Assessment studies (iLSAs) like PISA (the Programme for International Student Assessment) and PIAAC (the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies) employ stringent quality control procedures for the translation of their test items. The translations are crucial: a test item should not become more or less difficult because of its translation, given that test results are used to assess and compare the competency levels of different populations across countries. This article discusses how PISA and PIAAC translation procedures have evolved from earlier translation quality processes, and the underlying assumptions about translation that have shaped this evolution. We then report on findings from a qualitative interview study with translators, reviewers, and translation managers who have been involved in PISA or PIAAC translation processes. The objective of the interview study is to analyse the quality control procedures from the perspective of translation players. How do translators prepare for and perform translations for iLSA studies, and how does this process compare with other translation assignments they receive? This comparison will give an understanding of whether translators, in general, believe the iLSA translation process and its quality control procedures provide adequate guidance for performing these translations. We finish by proposing recommendations for future iLSA translation processes. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
