Abstract:
(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (english):
The relationship between interpersonal subtypes and the modification of interpersonal problems in psychotherapy inpatients Objectives: Interpersonal problems are typically assessed with the Inventory of interpersonal Problems (IIP; Horowitz et al. 2000). Although patients show different interpersonal profiles, these have to date not been considered in outcome evaluation. We examined whether interpersonal subtypes can be found in inpatients, and whether they differ in the modification of interpersonal problems. Furthermore, we examined the impact of subtypes regarding overall outcome. Methods: The Structural Summary Method for Circumplex Data was used to examine the interpersonal problems of N = 2809 inpatients from the Asklepios Clinic Tiefenbrunn. Subtypes of interpersonal problems were determined by the centroid method of cluster analysis and were compared with regard to treatment effects. Results: Patients were distributed in the interpersonal Circumplex and were assigned to eight IIP subtypes, which differed in improvement with regard to interpersonal problems and overall outcome. Conclusions: According to the circumplex structure of IIP data, for group level evaluation it is necessary to generate interpersonal subtypes so that clinically relevant results can be demonstrated. Abstract (english):
This study examines the relationships of vocational interests and mathematical literacy both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Extending previous research, the results of Holland's RIASEC (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional) scale scores are compared with results from a reductionist approach using individual interest profiles (including the parameters level, differentiation, and orientation). Both analyses find significant relations between interests and mathematical literacy. The scale score analyses reveal positive associations of Realistic interests with mathematical literacy, whereas Artistic interests show a negative association. Interest profiles from a dimensional representation show individuals with interest orientations close to the Realistic domain score highest on mathematical literacy, with those with interests in both Artistic and Social domains scoring lowest. Results from profile analyses suggest that interest differentiation moderates the interest-ability relation. Only interest profiles are predictive for mathematical literacy over and above covariates, indicating that interest profiles are more robust predictors than the scale scores. Analyses show that interest profiles are a valid reduction of the scale score models. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
Longitudinal studies have investigated the development of students' achievement in upper secondary level in Germany. While mathematical literacy partly remains stable regarding the mean, partly increased, English achievement mainly increased. Furthermore, huge differences in achievement between students in basic courses compared to those in advanced courses are well known. These differences can be traced back to different achievement levels at the beginning of the upper secondary level and an additional differentiation within the two different course levels. We conducted an exploratory study to investigate the development of students' achievement within the first year after transition in a German academic track school. Students of two consecutive cohorts (N = 135) participated twice in standardized achievement tests in mathematics and English. Results showed mathematical literacy significantly decreasing, while English achievement increased substantially. For a more differentiated view on the development we split students in two groups, depending on which course level (basic or advanced) they intended to choose in the 12th grade. For both subjects and points of measurements students who intended to choose an advanced course outperformed the other students. But there was no interaction effect between course level and students' achievement over time within the11th grade.(DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Abstract (english):
In this longitudinal study, we examined the effect of vocational interest profiles on the development of achievement in two core subjects in upper secondary level. Vocational interests according to Holland (1997) were modelled by individual profiles including the parameter level as well as the dimensions Things/People and Data/Ideas (Prediger, 1982). Furthermore, we included self-concept and course level in our analyses and investigated the mediating effects of interest profiles on the self-concept achievement-relation and the course level achievement-relation respectively. Our results revealed a positive effect of the Things/People dimension on the development of mathematics achievement. Contrary to our assumptions, we found no association between vocational interests and the development of achievement in English. We confirmed significant positive effects of self-concept and course level on the change in achievement in both subjects. Only in mathematics vocational interests turned out to mediate these effects. In sum, this study revealed subject-specific differences in the effects of vocational interest profiles on the development of achievement.
