Abstract (english):
Research on temperament has evolved substantially throughout the last years. Assessing temperament in a child gives information about why the child reacts differently in different situations and can be seen as one of the variables playing a role in determining adaptive and maladaptive outcomes. Insight into the temperament of the child, therefore, facilitates the adaptation of support or child-rearing practices to the specific needs and wishes of the child. The current study aimed at reviewing existing temperament instruments among young children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD). An inventory of the existing instruments, which can determine temperament, was made based on a literature review. A total of 138 articles were found in which temperament was measured. None of these studies included children with PIMD. The Infant Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (IBQ-R) very short form and the Child Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) very short form seem to be the most appropriate forms to measure temperament. Because motor disabilities are one of the main characteristics of these children, assessment instrument must be accommodated to minimize impairment bias, without altering what the test measures. Therefore, a pilot-study with 12 children with PIMD (age between 1.8 and 4.9 years) was conducted to analyze the bias of motor disabilities on these instrument. Results showed that seven (19.4%) of the CBQ items and nine (24.3%) of the IBQ-R items contained motor behavior which biased the validity of the instrument. A proposal is made regarding the adaptation of the nine IBQ-R items. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
In mathematics education, the student's ability to translate between different representations of functions is regarded as a key competence for mastering situations that can be described by mathematical functions. Students are supposed to interpret common representations like numerical tables (N), function graphs (G), verbally or pictorially represented situations (S), and algebraic expressions (A). In a multi-step project (1) a theoretical competence model was constructed by identifying key processes and key dimensions and corresponding item pools, (2) different psychometric models assuming theory-based concurrent competence structures were tested empirically, and (3) finally, a computerized adaptive assessment tool was developed and applied in school practice. Abstract (english):
This study illustrates an overarching psychometric approach of broad relevance to investigations of 2 sources of construct-relevant psychometric multidimensionality present in many complex multidimensional instruments routinely used in psychological and educational research. These 2 sources of construct-relevant psychometric multidimensionality are related to (a) the fallible nature of indicators as perfect indicators of a single construct, and (b) the hierarchical nature of the constructs being assessed. The first source is identified by comparing confirmatory factor analytic (CFA) and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) solutions. The second source is identified by comparing first-order, hierarchical, and bifactor measurement models. To provide an applied illustration of the substantive relevance of this framework, we first apply these models to a sample of German children (N = 1,957) who completed the Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ-I). Then, in a second study using a simulated data set, we provide a more pedagogical illustration of the proposed framework and the broad range of possible applications of bifactor ESEM models. Abstract:
This paper illustrates a psychometric approach of broad relevance to psychiatric research instruments. Many instruments include indicators related to more than one source of true-score variance due to the: (1) assessment of conceptually adjacent constructs; (2) the presence of a global construct underlying answers to items designed to assess multiple dimensions. Exploratory structural equation modelling (ESEM) is naturally suited to the investigation of the first source, whereas bifactor models are particularly suited to the investigation of the second source. When both sources are present, bifactor-ESEM becomes the model of choice. To illustrate this framework, we use the responses of 1159 adults [655 female, 504 male, mean age (Mage) = 41.84] who completed the French Version of the Composite Scale of Morningness (CSM). We investigate the factor structure of the CSM, test the relations between CSM factors and body mass index, and verify the measurement invariance of the model across gender and age groups. Abstract (english):
Although there is a common understanding of instructional sensitivity, it lacks a common operationalization. Various approaches have been proposed, some focusing on item responses, others on test scores. As approaches often do not produce consistent results, previous research has created the impression that approaches to instructional sensitivity are noticeably fragmented. To counter this impression, we present an item response theory-based framework that can help us to understand similarities and differences between existing approaches. Using empirical data for illustration, this article identifies three perspectives on instructional sensitivity: One perspective views instructional sensitivity as the capacity to detect differences in students' stages of learning across points of time. A second perspective treats instructional sensitivity as the capacity to detect differences between groups that have received different instruction. For a third perspective, the previous two are combined to consider differences between both time points and groups. We discuss linking sensitivity indices to measures of instruction. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract (english):
Schema modes are conceptualized as different parts of oneself, related to specific emotions, cognitions, and behaviors. They are a central concept in Schema Therapy for personality pathology and other chronic psychiatric disorders. Prior research confirms the factorial validity of the Schema Mode Inventory (SMI), an instrument to assess schema modes. This study presents an evaluation of the Danish version of the SMI including reliability and validity analyses. Psychometric properties such as the factor structure, internal reliability as well as intercorrelations between subscales were assessed. This was done based on a sample of N = 657 non-clinical and clinical adults from Denmark, including 18 prisoners from a mental health department. Results indicated a good model fit for the 14-factor structure of the SMI and adequate-to-excellent internal reliabilities of the 14 subscales (Cronbach's α from .74 to .96). Furthermore, the SMI scales differentiated between all groups as theoretically predicted. (DIPF/Orig.)

Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
There are a few hundred countries and many more culturally distinct groups identified by cultural anthropologists (Human Relations Area Files; Murdock et al., 2008). In many of these groups, psychometric instruments have been applied for at least half a century. There are hundreds of psychological tests and scales, of which dozens are widely used. The permutation of peoples, tests and historical time defines the global success of the testing enterprise. It also defines the scope of this chapter, making clear that our treatment of the topic can only be scant. We will focus on a few general themes, leaving aside, for the most part, specific countries or cultures and specific tests. In the first section we look at the early use of tests cross-culturally and the growing awareness that test scores are not likely to have the same meaning across cultures. In the second section we address the resulting issues of inequivalence or imcomparability and the methods of analysis that were devised to deal with these issues. The third section covers more recent history, in our view characterized by concern about inequivalence, but also by a pragmatic approach to the use of tests with test takers who differ in the language they speak and in cultural background. The chapter ends with a section in which we address some inherent difficulties in international test use and point to important achievements over the period of almost a century. (DIPF/Orig.)
