Pilot project "Inclusive primary school"
The pilot project “Inclusive primary school” (PING) monitors inclusive education at primary schools in the federal state of Brandenburg within the context of two longitudinal studies over a period of three years.
Since the 2012/13 school year, the pilot project PING monitors 84 primary schools in Brandenburg practicing inclusive education. The project is a co-operation with the department of education at the University of Potsdam.
Two longitudinal studies are conducted. The first study focuses on the competence development of students in the domains of German and Mathematics while taking the characteristics of inclusive teaching and the socio-economic and socio-cultural background characteristics of students into account. Moreover, the study assesses the development of students’ social competencies. The random sample of 72 second and third year classes were assessed at the beginning and end of the school years 2012/13 and 2013/14.
The second longitudinal study focuses on the evaluation of further training and counselling of teachers at the pilot schools. Online questionnaires target all teachers of second and third year classes, to assess their evaluation of the quality and use of training and counselling processes. For example, the study aims to trace developments in the teachers‘ professional understanding of inclusive education. Moreover, qualitative interviews are conducted with a selection of teachers.
The pilot project on Inclusive education at primary schools is a joint venture project with Prof. Dr. Nadine Spörer, Prof. Dr. Miriam Vock and Prof. Dr. Agi Schründer-Lenzen of the department of education at the University of Potsdam.
