"Greater Heterogeneity of Achievement in Classes"

"Greater Heterogeneity of Achievement in Classes"
Jul 01, 2021
How does school actually work under pandemic conditions? Antenne Brandenburg asks Prof. Dr. Kai Maaz from the DIPF.

In the radio conversation, a wide variety of aspects come up for discussion: How have politics and schools fared so far in the wake of the Covid 19 crisis, what is the situation regarding the digitization of teaching, and what does the situation mean for graduating classes? These are just some of the questions Professor Maaz addresses. The education researcher also notes that too little attention has been paid so far to how this extraordinary situation has affected the psycho-social development of children and young people. He also emphasizes that international studies show that school closures have slowed learning rates. According to Maaz, this particularly affects lower-performing students and those from less advantaged families. What consequences this will bring is clear to him: "We will soon have to deal with greater performance heterogeneity in classes."
