MORAL – Socio-Moral Development of Children and Adolescents
The research project MORAL investigates the socio-moral development of children and adolescents with a strong focus on intergroup processes and social cognition. Another focus of the project is the training of educators and teachers regarding social exclusion among children and adolescents.
Project Description
The research project MORAL investigates the role of individual and situational factors for the socio-moral development of children and adolescents with a strong focus on intergroup processes. The project includes two main fields of research: On the one hand, moral development per se, and on the other hand, social exclusion as a field of application for socio-moral rules and competencies. In both lines of research, the role of social-cognitive abilities for the development of socio-moral competencies are examined. Furthermore, it is of great interest whether and how group memberships (gender, origin, etc.) and stereotypes influence children’s and adolescents’ social interactions and how this is connected to socio-moral development.
Moreover, in the context of research on social exclusion, we additionally examine educators’ and teachers’ attitudes and behaviors regarding social exclusion. In this regard, one aim of the project is the professionalisation of educators and teachers concerning social exclusion among children and adolescents.
