The DIPF is the centre for multidisciplinary, empirical educational research in Germany with around 140 scientific employees. It draws on the expertise of a wide range of disciplines. These include in particular: Educational Science, Psychology, Economics, Law, Sociology, Cultural History and Political Science as well as eHumanities and Information Management. The topics researched at the DIPF are correspondingly diverse. Four areas of focus are worth highlighting.

DIPF endorses a culture of open science and practice: we are committed to open access to knowledge and the possibilities of producing knowledge.

DIPF targets a close exchange with educational practice - i.e., with schools, universities and day-care centres. DIPF also seeks dialogue with researchers, administrators and policy-makers in the field of education as well as with the public interested in education.
